Classic motorhome

Dr. Joe,

We were at the Airstream factory in early November for the tour. My mother's family farm is just 18 miles east of Jackson Center so we hook up there summers.
Our trip back home took us through the western Carolinas where we driveway camped at some of my wife's relatives. One was in Greenwood SC; the night before we drove down to Greenwood we stayed at the Anderson/Hartwell Lake KOA and drove through Anderson.
When we stopped for a couple of days in the San Antonio TX KOA we were just a row behind a 345. We found that they were WBCI members from south TX and they also owned a 1981 Excella Diesel just like ours.

Appreciate the replies and comments. We will continue to be very interested in classic AS Motor Homes. Would like to add that both of our visits to the Airstream Factory were very pleasant fully satisfying events.

I sure do wish my Bambi was invisible to hail and falling objects. The storms the midwest has had the past two weeks, I've been worried a fair amount with all the wind, and hail/tornado warnings.

Plenty around

We just had a rally at a park in Galveston with about 40 spaces. Besides our 14 Airstreams, there were two other trailers already there that had no WBCCI numbers. The odd thing was that neither of these owners even said hello to any of our group.

In the 500 mile round trip, I saw countless Airstream trailers parked along the way and one trailer and one classic motorhome going the other way.

There was even an older Airstream parked behind a house on the shore just a stone's throw from Moody Gardens that we saw from the excursion boat. Odd thing ... in the middle of a row of very expensive looking houses, there was one cheap looking frame house and that one had the Airstream. That guy had his priorities right.

Rally in Galveston? I'm only 15 mins from Galveston (20 pulling the A/S ). I could have stopped by and met some people, but I didn't know.... oh well.

In mid March I was driving sans trailer from Santa Barbara to San Simeon on a Tuesday AM and passed a caravan of LARGE A/S 3 axles. prob 8-10 vehicles all towed by older folk in PUs and proceeding sedately at about 60mpg
In my 'hood in Ft Lauderdale I have seen about 5-6 parked in yards(no big deal yet about parking here, must be on paved slab however)

Cool Classic Motor Homes

There are at least two 310 Turbo diesels in Minnesota and both being used regularly.

I just bought a 1974 Tradewind up in Tacoma, Washington
and went to pull it home last week.

Saw a couple of Airstreams on the way back on Interstate 5.
Once I got back in town I saw two more.

One was a guy pulling his TT by the Long Beach Airport,
he waved but I don't know if he saw me wave back.

The other is parked two spaces away from me in the storage yard.
A 1975 Tradewind. In much better condition than mine is right now.

That will soon change as I get to work on it.

Hi El3mo,
We own a 1971 Tradewind, and I keep it at my office in Orange CA.
Stop by anytime, PM me for directions if you'd like.
Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Thought I would bring this one back to the top with my odd sighting this morning.

I have had sightings of many snow birds over the last few month running from the cold. I put 40 miles a day On I 75 so now that I'm looking I see a few from time to time.

This morning was a odd one though. I saw what I think was a Airstream Funeral coach. It apeared to be late 70's and about 28ft. It might have even been a silver painted Argosy. It just didn't look anything like the coach that I think Fred has a brocure on his page of. THe color for the skin was just off a little and looked more like paint. It had a 5ft long Landau bar and a equally large "W" painted on the side. It was on a flat bed truck headed south. If they stayed on I75 should be clearing Atlanta on the south side by now, maybe even part way to Macon.

Snow birds

We have lots of snow birds this time of year, but very few are in Airstreams. Plenty of multi-slide 5th-wheels and lots of bigger white box trailers.

I did see a highly polished 70s Airstream, about 26', proceeding west on US 290 near Dripping Springs on Friday. I had just dropped my Classic at the storage yard and started home; he probably wondered why I was waving at him.

BTW, the highlight of my last week was a 10-point buck that came up within 10 feet of me at Pedernales Falls state park before he decided that I didn't have anything to give him to eat. He had a beautiful rack.

Lightbulb Silver shinning in sunny but smoggy L.A.

For those folks who want to take a peek at an odd Airstream locally, swing by and say hello to Joe. He is in the City of Commerce, on Olympic Bl. From Atlantic turn east on Olympic and on the right hand side, after a couple of blocks you will see it. He lives in it, but the interior of this 1966 Caravel is unlike any other. Swing by.

I wish my Airstream was invisible to the birds!

I'm getting tired of cleaning up after target practice!

I live in the Daytona Beach area and have an office in Jacksonville which I drive to several times a week. I consistently see two to three airstreams a week. Where I stow our '25 Safari there is also a '25 Classic a '34 Classic and an older AS motorhome. They are out there just keep looking.

Saw a 310 Eastbound about Texas I-10 Mile Marker 640 (about 1/2 way between San Antonio and Houston) at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 13th.

First Classic MH unanticipated on-the-road sighting.

Wink spotted two and still looking

We are still working on our 74 overlander. After purchasing a 97 dodge ram 2500 4X4 to pull it, I did a complete turnaround when I saw my "double" going the other way! That was only the second I've seen in the 4 months we've owned and been looking. The first was a newer, longer airstream. Impressive! After all my online time looking up info, etc, it does seem that they must be invisible!!

Cool Ya just need a 13 year old to find them-

My son is an antique car fan, so he is always rubbernecking garages, barns, etc. He always yells out "Airstream!" when he spots one. I never see them when he's not in the car....
