1981 Airstream Excella Univolt

Does anyone know the rated output of the Univolt in a 1981 28' Excella motorhome? I am considering replacing it with a Prosine 1000 Inverter rated at 1000W continuous/1500W surge. Peak output is rated at 25 amps. I would like to mount it in the current space occupied by the Univolt, under the bed. Space limitations in that location make The Prosine 1000 the largest Prosine unit that is safe to install.

Dick,

I think the univolt output is 50 AMPS???

Some food for thought. 2 batteries will make the 25 AMP charging output 12.5 AMPS per battery. The worry here could be a slow charge on the battery after a full discharge can be detrimental to the life of the batteries. If I remember correctly the batteries are under your steps, the distance between the batteries and the inverter should be as short as possible. If you are planning on running the inverter off the Alternator you may also want to consider larger cables from the alternator/isolator to the battery/inverter. Number 1 or 0 would be best. Also as a saftey device I highly reccomend a 250 AMP Fast blow fuse betwen the battery and inverter and the Alternator and the battery. The main reason for this is safety in case of a short. Many of the inverters I ahve worked with have a 40 AMP chargers. That is what the Trace 1200 inverter I had was equipped with. I was able to recharge 2 batteries fine with it, but I also had 4 solar panels at the time. I was able to run most everything(not the AC)including a bread machine.
