1977 20 ft Airstream motorhome - silver
hello out there. i am the new owner of a 1977 20ft "airstream silver" airstream motorhome. i am in search of any available information on this unit. i know that it is a rare bread but don't know much about it. the people we bought it from said that they only made 7 like this that year but i have no clue if that is true or where they got that info. Any information yall may have would be very helpful.
thanks,
tracy

Welcome to the forums.
If you have a 1977, I don't think you have an Airstream. If you have an Airstream motor home, you don't have a 1977. The first year for Airstream motor home production was 1979.

Welcome to the family Tracy!
What you have is a 1977 Argosy Motorhome and there were quite a bit more than 7 made! They are pretty hard to find though! I also own a 1977 20' motorhome. We love it!
You have found the best spot for assistance and encouragement!
Your unit might have had the paint striped off. You will have galvanized steel front and rear end caps (up top). You can use a magnet to confirm they are metal. The rest of it is aluminum!

Fred...thankyou so much for the reply! i am now pretty sure that she is in fact a argosy thanks to everyones post and information!
you have the same unit? do you have any insight on where to get parts and such? perhaps a company that has a catalog? or a website?
she is in pretty good shape but does need alittle love.
we plan on polishing her up...good idea?

Okay, what you have is an Argosy that has been stripped, polished, the steel end caps painted silver, and "airstream" lettering applied.
If it was "real", it would be an Airstream 200 motor home, which was never built.

It looks great! Check the front and rear top caps with a magnet. If it sticks, it is galvanized steel. You can keep it silver but you'll paint it silver instead of polishing it. You cannot polish the steel to look like the rest of unit.
Here is an Argosy that has been stripped. You can see the front cap is different. There was an Argosy 20 in Colorado for sale just recently that was stripped to the bare aluminum and the caps were obvious.
Yes, I have a 1977 Argosy 20'. This one is my unit.
There is no one place to get all of your stuff. There are a few places that most of us shop but it depends on what you need. The great thing about these units is that your chassis is a 1977 Chevy P-30 and you can get parts at just about any local auto parts place! It is a very common truck chassis.
I also recommend inlandrv.com. Andy is a great resource. He really knows his stuff and he insists on doing it 150% correct.

Yes! You have an Argosy that someone modified to look like an Airstream! It is fairly common since everyone recognizes the Airstream brand. I usually say I have an "Argosy by Airstream". ;-)

Must be time for an upgrade
I went from a 20' 77 Argosy, then with a little one in the family we did a 24' of the same year.
Mostly grown now so we have a 27' 84 Airstream as our final AS?
I gotta say, I miss my little 77 Argosy 20 footer!

Do you want to sell it? I lost my 20' to the fire that destroyed Paradise California.
