53FC,

What is under the cover that the drive gear goes into? Could it be a early version of the current electronic toilet. Having a system where you push the lever and it added water and flushed so you don't have to stand there??

On a marine head they have a built in macerator, I don't think that is what this is, but I am just guessing.

just a thought, but my '73 has an exhaust fan "down there", along the side of the toilet. there's flexible ducting that goes down through the closet and out the rear curbside corner, like where an exhaust pipe would be.

Working away~

Chuck,
That sounds like a nice feature to have.
I don't think this contraption was meant to do that`! lol
Worked on the new Astrodome installation project until the threat of rain forced a retreat.
Here's a few pictures on "What Not to use for this type of repair~
"That's half of an old Samsonite suitcase, and a piece of plywood for a cover." Grrrr
The new Astrodome in place, and looking good~!~
I can see the smile getting bigger every day on the front of the 64GT

Tim,
What else can I do for fun? lol
Yeppers, I'm saving everything except for the junk~That's free..
So far the new lights were only $14.96, not counting the new 12v sockets and bulbs..Another $22 there.
The Astrodome was around $200, including shipping.
The new vent operators were $58 each..(more for shipping.)
The new couch was $100, plus several more for gas, tolls, motel room.($300 total for the trip)
I have other bills pending or stashed away.lol
Like for the new window screens being made, and the new Lexan windows yet to be picked up.
Paint supplies, etc about $45
All in all, not too bad yet.
New axle, wheels, tires, shocks are to come next..
Now that's gonna hit the ole silk purse hard.!@!
The new curtains materials cost was $40 plus, the wife said $11 per hour to make em for me...lmao
Thanks again~
ciao

Talking It's Finis

Today was the hottest day yet..(93 degrees)
We pushed on with the Astrodome project~
I spend the better part of the morning, with my upper body poked thru the top opening, cleaning all of the black gook off the vent area plus some red paint!!
Started to drill the holes after-wards, and the drill wasn't up to stuff..(battery powered)
Called my neighbor down the street, ended up I borrowed his..
Okay, now we're back on the job doing the drilling when I discovered the drills were the wrong kind.~
That's okay.I needed to run over to Home Depot to pick up some #6-32 stainless steel hardware, and some new gasket for the vent.
While out, I figured I'd wash the Burb..
$27.87 later, we finally finis the drilling, fastening down the hardware.
Installed the new Astrodome in place..It looks good~!!
Took it back off to finis the gasket work, and applied Vulkum over the nuts to seal it against water~
Here's a few pictures of the job.
ciao

Looks great - yow - 58 dollars for the vent operators - I can see why though, look like they are very nicely made.

What kind of gasket did you use.

Sure enjoying this post - I've got the same things to do on my 58 - belly comes off tomorrow!

Ken
Ken,
That's 58$ each...lol
Thanks for the nice compliments`
That sounds like some serious work you have in store..
The gasket is fairly generic, but was the largest size they had at Home Depot, 3/4"x7/16"x10 ft.Part number R734W
The stainless steel hardware is #6X32 with the nuts /washers combination~
I'd liked to have had something just abit larger but...This will do for now.
