try this..

I hear you..Man, you're so right..It just won't let go..
What I did was peel it off slowly..Then, afterwards..used Citristrip, laid that down, and left it for abt 10 min..wiped right off..
Plus, I found a source for new window..LEXAN, 1/8in thick for replacement..cost 16$ per window~!~ I can get it in "smoky grey"..
Do you need any??
ciao

ahh...citristrip. thanks for the tip. I'll try that. isnt' that a "less nasty" chemical? will it stink up the house?

I don't think I have the window problem that you 60's owners have...first of all, my windows are in good shape (except for the gaskets ). AFAIK, the glass doesn't have any curve to it. at least, I don't think it does...ought to be able to get a piece cut almost anywhere, should the need ever arise. The front window (the only one I've taken out and actually replaced the gasket) is flat. what a project for something so silly. I also did the entry door, and that, of course, has to stay attached to the trailer. but I'd like to pop out the other windows one at a time and get it done. Not that I have any leaks...at least not that I can see. drafts? yes. but water cant get inside the opening unless its really driven. the design of the frame, etc, etc.

It is, plus..it smells better~!~!
I swear this stuff never fails to amazes me...My results so far have been fairly good..
You will have to peel off any rubber gaskets before you use it..
For best results..
About the windows..I agree, it's so darn silly what you have to go thru,
just to do about any kind of work..
It's like..Grrrrr, who designed this?? lmao

well, the glue is supposed to stick...and it does. that's the good part. if they made the gasket so it would last as long as the glue does...we wouldn't have this problem!

Replaced

Replaced the rusted screws with new stainless steel screws around the water heater~
Cost for stainless steel screws was: .87cents for a package of 4~
For a total of 7 packages.
(the only package type available )
Picked up a brand new in-line water filter to replace the original one.
The original had been left filled with water, and during some previous winter..bursted`!
Oh well, why am I not surprised~??
ciao

Please, Don't EVER!!

Okay..Please listen up all you owners of Vintage Airstreams~!!
We all know that there's a RIGHT way to do things~!
For safety sake, please consider your actions before hand~
If you don't know..Ask~!! or better yet..leave it alone~!
This past week has really been an eye opener for me~
It puts a whole new meaning to the term:
Shade Tree Mechanics
  • 1. Don't drill multi holes into the cabinets~!~!
2.Don;t just half @#$` paint the walls or ceiling~!!
    3.Don't lose your keys~!~
    4.Don't pry/force open compartment doors~!~
5.Don't install wrong size (wattage) light bulbs~!~
6.Don't leave water in your unit over the winter..(Geeez)
    7.Don't install non-Airstream hardware or parts~!!
8.Don't start a project, and then leave undone~!!
    9.Do your annual maintenance..
10.Don't mix wheels style, and tires brands~!!
11.Don't leave the bathroom area unclean/stained..
12.Don't leave your sex toys for others to find~!~
(Gawd, what a silly thing to leave behind~!~!)
Do us all a favor..Don't, Don't..ever buy another Airstream..
Here's a few examples..Some examples I just refuse to show..
First one shows..Half of a suitcase laid over the astrodome cover opening~!!
(Which was missing~!)
Second one shows handle on the outside..For what???
Third one shows AC plug~ Maybe this was the "standard 40 yrs ago? lol
GAWD, what else can I say??
I honestly believe the members on here know better, it's just that these examples do show what damages an uninformed person can do~
ciao

Day's progress`

Chuck..
I'll clue you in later..lmao
okay, okay...here's one clue..
I found ropes dangling from the four corners of the bed..
You can have em~!!
(maybe he had problems staying on the bed at night??lmao )

Today's project was to re-wire the shore power plug..Done..
Then, clean and re-oil the motor for the stove vent sys., and the motor for the HEHR vent outside the bathroom. Both now are working perfectly~!!
Checked all 120 outlets for power~All are in good working order~
Checked all interior lights for proper operation..So far, good~
Turned on the 120volt sys. on the Frig, and loaded with beer~!..
(Fire extinguisher is HANDY...lol)
So far, everything seems to be working.
Water system will come later as there's obivious signs of gaps/breaks in line..lol
For safety reasons:
Propane gas line needs to be checked and double checked first before anything happens in this area~!!
Still having fun`!~

ciao

I'm usually a pretty refined guy. Oh well.
