Whew..

Yesterday afternoon, I drove over to the State Police Office to pick up the temp plates for this "no name yet"64 GT.
As I was walking out, I noticed that the clerk had typed 1941 for the year~!!
I quickly turned around and, had her correct the permit~
Later this week I'll be bring it home~(I got new gravel spread for it's parking spot for the "home-coming"~!! )

Ordered all of the gaskets for the door, windows, compartment doors from
InLandRV.
Later~

While looking around in the trailer today..(cleaning~!) I found this~!!
It's the cover to the lower portion of the water heater's compartment.`
Looks like it might've dropped off the unit and, then gotten ran over~?
I figured, this door was gonna be a toughie to replace !

Ya're never~

Finally got down to working earnestly on cleaning the unit` Over 4 hrs expended just cleaning the bathroom~
Started in kitchen..the stove will require some "major elbow efforts" on my part to just remove the grime~ The "Humprey Gas Light" was cleaned as well and, now looks better than new~!(Gotta find some mantle before I can make use of it.)
Windows and, doors gasket replacement will be next, once I get the parts ordered from InLandRV...This will give me more time to finis cleaning the ceiling and walls.
I've found several good size wasps nesting that,
NEED to be removed (w)ASAP.
Gonna get the ole spray can out first ~!~
Don't go messin without it~ lol
I have a request~!! Info on where to find or get info on the replacement front vent cover..Anyone?
ciao

Ordered a astrodome cover

Spend a few minutes this morning cleaning out the "HEHR" rear motorized vent..Shown here are some before and after pictures. Used a "secret" technique that's been debated on other threads.
Ordered a brand new Astrodome vent cover from "AirstreamDreams" this morning..Not cheap~
Safari Tim, here's that bathroom vent pipe~I need to check the gasket out for it~thanks again for the reminder~!!

WOW! That "secret" method works pretty good. Why don't you share the process of this secret "method" so we can debate it here.

A good days work~

Got out to the 64 GT just after 7:30 am and, begin to look at what I need to do to remove the "homebrew" bed frame..(Needed the extra room to walk around)
Once I started the work, It became clear to me that, the gaucho frame was still there in one piece~!! Now I had to really be careful~Took about 45 minutes and, then I had removed the gaucho to the outside..
Next project was to rip out the old carpeting~That job and the removal of the original tile was done by 10:45 am. Got the whole thing cleaned up in preperation for painting the ceiling, walls. Removed the end cabinet piece that covered the frig..It had so many holes in it..It had to go~!
Worked around the door area for a bit..Just had to check the wood out in that area to be sure it was solid` So far, the only soft spot seems to be just in front of the toilet..
(Hmm, wonder if this is because of >>??)lol
Time for a break and, a cold beer~!!
Just had a good ole time working in my A/S.. lol

Order of the day`

Finised the cleaning of the walls and the front ceiling today..
You just can not imagine the years of cigs smoke stain..Not as bad as some units I've seen in the past. The "homebrew" cleaning solution worked better than expected. There's an old retired Funeral Director I owe a lot to for that recipe~
In keeping with the plans for the new layout of the interior..
Finis with the removal (gutting process) of an old storage cabinet added by "one" of the PO's..This was to make room for a new 'Fulton' that will go in its place.
Great news..just after 2pm the UPS man shows up with my new astrodome vent cover~from AirstreamDream~!!
(Man they sure got that out FAST..And, it was packed~!.Anyone need "popcorn"?)
Thanks so much Steve~!
No pictures..too tired..Time out for a shower and break~
ciao

I'm so happy for you! Glad it's all been good news so far, and the floor looks good and all. Finding the gaucho under all the extra bedframe bits was a lucky break. I totally know where your coming from - I can tinker in my airstream for hours and time just passes by! Happy happy happy

BTW, my hubby was born in 68, and our trailer is a 68!

The 60's were..

Stefrobrts,
Thanks for your words of encouragement.
The 60's were the best of times in so many ways`
Graduation from school..Woodstock, college, working in Asia,
Rush St., in Old Town section of Chicago (remember the "Flower Power??)
My first son was born in '68 as well..
Sadly, it was also the year he passed away.
Back to 64 GT..
It's quite a job undertaking one of these projects and, I'm sure this has been said before..but, you know..if it wasn't for this great bunch of people on this forum..I'm not so sure I'd be doing this.
At least here, if I run into problems..I have a somewhere to turn for help.
The last two days have been busy getting things ready..
The next major project is to repaint the interior~
After that, I'm thinking the floor..
The outside work will be saved for the last.
Like the painting of the rear bumper, tongue and, polishing..lol
The axle will need to be replaced. That I know~
I'll be ordering that from Andy when the time comes.~
With all of that, it's still fun ~!~

ciao

Wow!

Talk about tearing into a project!

An impressive amount of work done in such a short amount of time! At this rate you will be camping in it over the 4th of July!

This is like a very fast moving series of "This Old House" for Aluminaniacs!

Thumbs up Just in case

If anyone wants to mix up a batch..
The formula consist of these ingreditions:
1/3 Ammonia, 1/3 Alcohol, 1/3 Water and,
for each gallon of mixture, add a cap of liquid soap.(Joy, etc.)
This works extremely well on getting Zolatone finis cleaned~
plus windows as well..
