Water tank replacement - 1963

Greetings AS folks!
I just discovered that my original steel water tank has rusted out. It's time to consult the oracles. I mean the forums. Patching or repairing the tank doesn't look like a great idea. I need your advice. I'm planning to stick with the original configuration, with a tank under the goucho bed. Should I look for ABS or polyethylene? Seems like a reasonable do it yourselfer. What about a filler? Can I reuse the original? Any other thoughts and advice welcome. Cheers!

Even though the poly tanks are cheaper, I would recommend the ABS. You will be able to apply fittings to the ABS tank as required without any special tools. You may be able to retrofit the original fill tube depending on the tank you pick. Valterra makes ABS water tanks in a number of sizes.

Keep in mind that the original Galvanized steel tank was a pressurized system and the ABS/Poly tanks will utilize a demand pump rather than a pressure pump.

Happy Trails!

Thumbs up

Thanks Much. I appreciate our suggestion. I haven't found a tank of the right dimensions, yet. But ABS makes sense. Cheers!
