Sorry to have gone 'underground' for so long. I have been preoccupied with other projects. But we want to get the floor in, the windows in and the shell weather proof before Labor Day 2017 so we can use it on a church camp out as an aluminum tent. :-)

I am missing a window frame for one of the three side windows. The opening is 21 1/2 by 28 1/2.

Looks like I just answered my own question. Did a bit of searching and found this:

Today I ordered tempered glass for my windows. I got a new frame for on that was missing. I also got a galvanized roof vent and the lexan Astrodome for the front. I don't have any hardware for it. Here is a picture.

Does anyone know where I can buy hardware to attach the dome? Or is there any way to fabricate something that will work.

Banjo they are sometimes referred to as Astrodome, Astradome, Solardome, Fiberglass Dome, Lexan Dome lifters.

They don't make them anymore but there are still some out there for sale, barter or trade.

Hopefully VTS will find a vendor someday who can duplicate them.

The inner piece is like a corkscrew motion and lifts up out of the outer piece when you turn the handle.

Airstream Supply also has them, but they are around 94 per. If I remember correctly, latter part of last year they went way down in price. Like suggested, keep an eye on the Classifieds and eBay. Good luck in your hunt. Bubba

Just got a call and my windows are in. I have been working on the frames with steel wool and aluminum polish. Having a friend who welds aluminum work on two of the frames.

Question: What type of material should I use to affix the windows back in the frames. I bought the plastic outer rounded click in trim from VTS. I cleaned all the black colored old sealer that was used originally. Should I get a particular silicone? Is there a different product that is usually used?

I looked at the forum but there are HUNDREDS of threads and most seem to be for newer trailers. I am sure there is one there. Maybe a link if you all know of a good thread for this.

It's called "Sealants Summary"

I got two of my windows in today. Cleaned up the aluminum frames and used glazing tape from the window local window store that ordered my tempered glass. I intended to upload some pictures but I used my GoPro and it says the files are too big. I will try to figure a way to compress the files.

I used to use Photobucket but they don't let you use that anymore. Bummer. I think I pay about 3 bucks a month for my photobucket account. Any ideas of other outside cloud storage systems that Air Forums allows? Things get so technical that I cannot keep up. :-)

Anyway, the glazing worked great. The plastic trim pieces from VTS did not work quite as well. It does not fit in very tight and on one window it is coming off. Is it supposed to click into place or are you supposed to use some product to keep it in place.

Anyway, I wish I could upload some photos. :-(

hello banjoboy - i also have a 1963 19' globetrotter - just purchased it last month.
the original vent lifters are no longer available and the reproduction handles are ugly and look nothing like the originals.

i have (2) original extra vent lifters if you have interest - i purchased these years ago and have saved them - i'd sell for $100@ and they work very well and in great condition.

Thank you William. I am still not sure what I am going to do there. I purchased the moon cover, (not cheap), months ago. My wife is wanting me to put an air conditioner in the space so the whole matter may be a moot point. I am going to put more effort into this to try and have it usable by next summer (2019).

But lets stay in touch, if nothing else to get the trailers side by side some day. We are very close.

sounds good - the mooncover as referred to it is actually called an "astrodome" which is the larger skylight vent. and yes not cheap!

Here is our Globetrotter after sitting for a few years. I put a new axle and tires on her a few years back. But during the Corona virus I put in the new sub floor. This past week I hired a guy to help me start the buffing process.

Installed a fantastic fan in the old vent opening

I framed in a 14 x 14 opening in the old 14 x21 Moon Vent opening to receive an air conditioner that is coming later this week. You can see in this picture that I used an old interior skin turned inside out to fabricate and fill the hole in front of the opening. I also used a c channel of aluminum I bought at Lowes to ad some stiffening to the area.

I also built a frame for this rear hatch. When I bought the trailer it just came as an aluminum sheet without any framing. I just set it in place. Question: Is this door period correct for my 1964 Gobetrotter? The Airstream Lettering is different and the background appears to be white and not blue? It just doesn't look like it belongs on this trailer. any thoughts on that?

I drilled out the rivets for the Airstream emblems and got some 'Royal Blue' Rust Oleum at Loews. I read on the forum that this color was really close to the original Airstream blue. I taped off the letter and painted it. WOW! I love it. I just set it on the window drip edge to see what it will look like.

Patching holes, fixing gapping damage done by someone with lag bolts trying to fasten awning connections I think. The PO also covered up broken a widow with sheets of plastic and literally drilled deck screws through the aluminum around the window frames. "FACE PALM". So there will be a lot of 'character' with my old trailer. But that is part of the fun.

I am spending money on Amazon like a drunken sailor now. So cool to have all the parts I need come to my front door for the most part.

Our goal is to have her ready for camping in 2022 season.

Yes, we used Royal Blue Rustoleum for lettering, pretty close to correct color. People also use Ford blue, I understand.
