Original Price on a 61 Globettotter
We are looking for documentation, archival, advertisement or otherwise on what the original sales price would have been on a 1961 Globettotter.
We have done some research but are reaching out to the knowledable forum members for help.
Why do we need this you ask. We purchased a 1961 Globetrotter from a private party out of state. He is also a dealer and represented himself as such on the title.
When we register it we will need to pay sales tax on the original price. MVD claims they are very good at researching these types of issues. We know that is easier said than done. If they are unable to find the price of the original 1961 Globetrotter they will use a year and make and model that is closest to it to determine the tax. Even though the amount of tax will likely be less than $100 we would like to keep it as accurate/low as possible.
We have done some online research and we have found price listings for Airstreams from more current years but not the 1961 Globetrotter.

This is for 1961, no mention of Globetrotter. It should at least give you a ball park figure.

Guessing
Thought I would do a quick comparison to see how much prices increased from 61 to 64 to back calculate a 61GT price. Not possible, since 61 prices are HIGHER due to being International models:-)

Thx Bambi Tex that's good info to know. We are not familiar enough with the GT's yet to know if ours is (or were they all) International trim line.

Most International models have a large badge on the rear and/or side that is hard to miss. Also, looking at the 1964 price sheet I notice only the larger trailers (22 ft and up) are listed with International as an option.

I have a price listing for 1960 models. 18' Traveler "standard" trim level was $2995.
22' Flying Cloud "standard" $3850. Land Yacht $4495. International $4995.
Sorry, no listing for Globetrotter in 1960. There were additional charges for propane tanks, "pressure water system," refrigerator, water heater, and A/C. If you'd like a copy of this price sheet (2 pages), PM me with your address.

Thank you all and Mark and BambiTex, those have been our results also. We will keep looking at images and documents and we have saved the documents to take with us to MVD.

Went back and looked over the documents and made copies of several.
This price list from 1963 shows a list price of $3995 so maybe this will work for them.
Going to look around for some more archive info from Fred and VAC and see if there's anything else available.

Work backwards
If 1964 price was $4095 and 1963 price was $3995, best guess for 1961 would be $3795:-)

Price for 1961 GT
I have an article Fred wrote in a magazine that says 1961 GT was $3,995 for self contained model which would have the black tank. California built.

Feedback:
MVD got accomplished without too much headache. They ended up using one of the archival documents (that we provided) from 1963 to see the original sales price.
Things went sideways a bit when she insisted on seeing the bill of sale. The seller signed the title as a small business LLC. Once she saw the hand written bill of sale between the private party and us she saw the price we just paid.
Then she said that meant we had to pay the tax on our CURRENT just paid price versus the original MSRP.
After some supervisor intervention it was concurred that indeed the tax due was a small amount on the original price.
Plates in the mail. Yeah
