Scott, it does have a cover. Here's some more photos of that area. Can you see the hole in the cover so you can lift it off? Can you see the round water heater in the first picture?

cool, never seen the omni chest, not sure there was ever one in ours, at least off hand I don't remember seeing evidence anything was there, but I'd have to double check that.

Thanks a lot for the photos, I can better recreate that.

I've only seen the Omni Chest in 63s. Mine is in decent shape, though I'm not certain it's going back in. It was mounted on the wardrobe wall right next to the throne, and for some reason, to my eye, it seems to intrude into the space quite a bit visually. But then again, I'm fairly minimalist.

well it looks pretty easy to replicate. I'll do some investigating tomorrow. Wow 63 was certainly a unique year for that kinda of stuff.

Hey Scott,

I just started the first step. I have the wheels off being basted and then painted. It's on jack stands at work now. I have 101 excuses, been fishing, working my vegetable garden, 100+ degrees here with no rain for about 2-3 weeks, plus, I'm a GM dealer (ha, let's not go down that road). Truth, I just haven't gotten it started.

Glad I stumbled on this post my GT was totally stripped when I got it so pictures are all that I have,I know the bathroom won`t go back anywhere near original. The kitchen will be changed to a bigger fridge and no oven. The heat is a big factor in how much work i get done.Picture included to show new black tank, gray tank will be in front of the axle.

Well, after about 6 months of the Globetrotter sitting at work, I finally towed it home & played with it today.

I ordered an axle with brakes & received it, but have not installed it.
There is some rotted floor by the door.
The original stove/oven has been replaced with a cook top-looks bad.
The original Carlson furnace is been taken apart by the PO, and is not working. This type of vertical furnace does not have a blower fan.
I cannot get the original Dometic M35 refrigerator to light because the tip is missing off the pilot tube-I think I have parts on the way for this.
The original water heater looks very rusty.
Hooked up the water-brown muck came out-then turned a little clearer.
Carpet has been put on top of the original VCT tiles-both look bad.

...and the good news is..........

All 12v and 110v lights work.
All the 110v outlets work.
The original fresh water tank air pressure pump works---even with the brown muck.
The original Hehr roof fan works (on 12v only, the 110v transformer wires have been cut by a PO).
All four original Hehr roof vent lifters work.
The Zolatone is in good shape, and so are wood cabinets.

So...what to do??

I going to do a shell off floor replacement. This way I can add a grey tank and check the frame for rust. I may keep the original wood cabinets and the original refrigerator(if it works!)-but not sure, yet. Also, I would like to add a roof AC.

.......OK, now I've said it.........

Thats good news Rick! Since you'll have the lower skins off its pretty easy to run a condensate tube up for your future a/c unit. If you remove one of the window height panels on the side wall you have enough access to feed it and romex if you need it up to the A/C location. Still stripping paint here on the original aluminum I kept on the upper sections on mine, lots of latex over the zolatone. Those are great finds.

The brown is probably from rust on the inside of that galvanized tank. I'm trying an FDA approved system for coating tanks etc. Will be etching the tank then coating it, which should take care of any issues with orange/brown water (of course all new pipes). Pump on mine works too, looking forward to getting it back it. I'll forward the sealer info to you if you want it, they sell enough for a tank for 20 bucks shipped.

If you decide to change the bathroom around (like the black tank location etc) let me know

Scott,

Thanks for the information on the AC tube. I guess I'll be cutting a hole in the center between the two vents. Also, I would like the information on the sealer for the tank coating. My '61 Overlander also has the original galvanized pressure tank. Guess I'll need to do both tanks.

For now, I haven't thought much about changing the bathroom around. It may depend if I have any problems with the black tank.

Thanks again,

metal sealant, seal pump valves, Microseal

they sell a sample for $20 shipped that is a pint, which is a lot when you consider a gallon covers 500-2000 sf.
