exterior access door to refrigerator
greetings all. i drove through a winter storm in maryland and pennsylvania today on my way back home to western new york. big side wind and white out condition. got home and the front of my '64 globetrotter was covered with
1 1/2" of ice.... the downer was seeing the exterior access door to refrigerator was gone. does anyone know where i could get a replacement? i'd prefer something salvaged, but if i cannot find one, is there a place that could make one?
many thanks for your thoughts.

You might have better luck retracing your steps and try to find your door...

Come on down to South Carolina....its warmer here....
Joking aside you might want to call DonMar RV Sales in Lynchburg, SC
803 453 5011
800 581 4678
I've never done business with them but have heard they can sometimes supply parts for vintage trailers from their salvage yard. I'm told they also sometimes fabricate parts like yours. They were once an Airstream Dealer. You can google them for more info.

For me, it would be faster and less hassle to make a new door. Here is the extrusion for the perimeter of the door.
https://www.vintagetrailersupply.com...-p/vts-869.htm
You can use any .032" sheet aluminum you can find. My original '68 ref door is not 2024 Alclad, more like 5052. You can hacksaw and file the miters by hand. You do not need a fine-tooth narrow kerf power miter saw. If you want, a picture frame shop can make the cuts.

ALUMINUMINUM!!!!!!!! rock on with this. i'll order the extrusion today. i just could not see paying that money, since one of the hats i wear is a sculptor. this extrusion will make the door into a project.
many, many, many thanks!!!!!!

Glad you can handle the project. Double check with VTS about the year/fit as there is a bit of cloudy "transition" in year changes at Airstream. Certainly compare the extrusion to another door on your GT.
Sculptors rule too...

If your access doors are the same as the ones on my 1964 Bambi II, I have often thought a sheet of appropriately sized 1/8" thick aluminum would make a good replacement door/panel.
All that would need to be done once it is cut to size would be to add the squared off lock cylinder hole and install a lock cylinder. The edges of the panel might need to be sanded/filed off a bit to fit in the channel, but it would make a very believable and serviceable repair.
I could possible make one for you if your other options are limited.
Cheers!
Ben
