snow? so what, get out the patio heaters! Get out there and rivet!! Nothing more fun than holding rivets in your bare blue fingers! You guys got way more than we did last night! Trailer is looking great!

An update is in order... there was an.... ermm interruption. An injured back, a move, a home reno... well, you get the idea... but the little globetrotter is back on the front burner.



Systems have been replaced, running gear replaced, holes patched, floor rebuilt, new holding tanks and a small gray tank added and the layout updated.

Segments (lower) both inside and out on, on the front had to be replaced - there was just too much damage to patch.

There are layout changes to make the trailer work for us. A large desk added, hidden charging stations, the pot has been moved into the rear corner, L shaped seating and a removable pedestal table. The cabinetry had to be rebuilt and this has been the biggest challenge as our woodworking skills are limited. We're getting better. New cabinets are mahogany and assembled in the same way the originals were, rather than built as standalone boxes and "installed". This keeps weight down and storage space to a maximum. The construction of the originals was astonishingly light weight and really clever. Next week we should be ready for sealing and painting the interior.

This past week a new range, sink and faucet were installed. Check out the new Thetford 2 burner range (Thetford XR17200) - I'll be curious to see how this cooks - one burner is larger/hotter than the other. Link to product page: https://www.thetford.com/product/17200/



At the back of the trailer the airliner bath was removed and the toilet moved into the corner. There is a storage box under the rear window that is designed to hold bulky stuff like bedding. It's also a sturdy seat. There is also storage for guitar and banjo cases in the rear corner (they take up a lot of space and need a dedicated home). We decided to leave out a bathroom sink and shower (although the plumbing is stubbed out to add them later) in favor of extra storage. It's a small trailer and usually will be set up for one person - the kitchen sink is 2 steps away. If we hate the arrangement it can be changed.



The front of the trailer has L shaped seating and the front section pulls out to make an acceptable two person bed. There is a removable table that stores under the desk.



A new bumper box has been built, new belly pan fashioned, new exterior lights ordered and a new step made.

Next month this little camper gets polished and then we can focus on soft goods and final touches.

We built all new cabinets upper and lower - they were in sad shape. We saved the door stays (props) from the upper cabinets but are short two.

Has anyone ever seen these for sale or know where to find some?

Janet that's a lot of progress since I saw it at your old place! Those cabinet door props are sold at our local Ace Hardware near the hinges and such. If you know the length you need I can check for you if yours doesn't stock them.

Did you happen to notice if they are the type with the notch? All the ones I've found are friction brackets like this:



Instead I need this one AND the mounting hardware.





I have found a suitable replacement (I think) but cannot find the part that goes on the lower end.

Hello, interesting project you have going. First off, I may have the parts you need. Am doing a '68 Overlander and, like you, reusing virtually none of the interior (more on that in a minute). Will attach a pic, let me know if it's what you need.
Now on to the bath or lack thereof... love it! We are doing a similar thing, turning the rear of the trailer into basically a second bedroom, keeping a stored porta-potty but no sink and only an outside shower. This was clinched one of the last times we were out in our '76 Argosy and watching my wife brush her teeth at the kitchen sink and thinking "why am I going through all that plumbing to have a second sink 8 Ft away". I had the interior all mocked up with walls and counters and appliances and everything and took it all out yesterday to do other work so no pics. I applaud your thinking outside the box.

Those are the parts! Would love to arrange something if you are not planning on reusing them.

Regarding the bathroom sink -we have a mid 60s overlander that we redid and the sink is so low in the bathroom that I also prefer the kitchen sink.

The goal with the Globetrotter is to capture as much interior floor space as possible. I have a band and need enough room for the 3 or 4 of us to warm up at festivals.

Many years ago (in our old minuet) we had a 5 musicians inside during a storm with the cellist sitting on the toilet. Now, with the toilet moved to the side, I still need the seating - but will be glad to not see the pot in the center of the hallway under the back window - it wrecked a usually lovely view.

Janet H we will also be considering no sink in our (still to be worked on) Globetrotter. As you said having it under the window makes it sooo low that it really isn't very functional.

Leaving it out will save on plumbing and provide nice storage space.

Re-configuring the plumbing in the rear was a key factor in our decision.

We moved the pot into the corner with an above floor black tank (under pot and enclosed). I also added a gray tank directly beneath the kitchen sink. That change meant that dump valves could be moved out of the center back section of the trailer. Waste runs and vents are are now all on one wall.

We also moved electrical out of that same section. On a 64 they were all accessible via a door in the rear exterior, but essentially still inside the trailer. batteries, breakers, black tank and dump valves were all in the same compartment ... what could possibly have gone wrong?

These changes meant we could reclaim that space for a storage box. You could surely put some other sort of cabinet there instead but my experience in the tiny minuet was that we always need a better place to stow bedding. Making and unmaking the bed every night is a pain and simple linen storage will be a good improvement. Pillows and a comforter are bulky.

The current (still mulling) plan is to add a cushion to the rear seat and soften up the hard front side of the box with an upholstered panel.

Some progress this week. Cabinets are sealed, lighting has been cleaned up and reinstalled and in one case a new light added (old one was unsalvageable). The missing cabinet stays have been added to the upper lockers (thanks mrdes8), thermostat installed and best of all we're hitched up and headed off to polish!

The exterior still has old broken lights - no point replacing until after polishing and the placards have been removed (again pre-polish). After polishing, the interior gussying up commences with upholstery and other soft goods.

Janet, glad to see the door stays worked, you are making nice progress! Always enjoy hitting those points where a bunch of related projects are done and you feel you can really move forward. I'm in the belly pan, axle, brakes, propane stage planning to get the trailer on the ground by the end of the month. It's been on jackstands since June of '19. Was recently trashing some of the ruined interior parts and saved all the remaining cabinet door stays and am going to try to reuse a few as I redo the interior although we are not going to have upper lockers (at least for now).

The folks at Wayward Trailers in Oregon are polishing this week and sent along some pics of the first pass.

Polishing has been completed - just towed home (with temp towing lights). Next up, soft goods for the interior, exterior badges, propane and tire carrier.
