Bambi II segments - model year change?

I was itnerested to realize after it was in my driveway that the Bambi II's only have five aluminum skin facets to create the front and rear compound curves. Was this a new body style change for 1964 model year as I believe that 1963 Bambi's have seven facets.

Yes, ther number of segments on the end caps changed as technology advanced - from as many as 15 on a few trailers in 1951 to as few as three on current trailers. Here's a matrix that helps determine when the changes occurred in the vintage trailers...

Vintage Trailer Features

1964 was a transition year from seven to five.

The more segments... the more vintage it looks... and the more places it has for potential leaks!

That chart is very helpful. I was kind of disappointed to realize (I was blinded by the silver and the fact that the Bamib II was MINE) to realize it did not have 7 facets, but oh well. I reallyl ike the early ones with lots of facets as they do look more vintage. The other feature I really like on the earlier Bambis is the tiny, skinny rear window, but I am still pleased to own a vintage Airstream...it was Bambi II number 2 off the Ohio line and sports a true Bambi script, so it really is as close as I can get!

Thanks for the info!

Ben

I certainly wouldn't be "disappointed" with a Bambi II...they were only made one year (1964) and many feel '64 was a very good year - myself included! Pssst...I happen to own a '64!

Shari's definitely right - plus, personally I'd trade few end segments away for all those nice big windows. They let in lots of light... cool breezes on a hot summer night... and (in my opinion) give the exterior a light, open and visually balanced look.

They're a classic, and have the most recognition in the general public, too - great for resale value. Post some photos when you can, we love 'em around here!

Thanks!

We are quite pleased with her. She needs frame repair...it was an adventure getting here home. I am not disappointed per se. Before the Airstream, though, I need to finish rebuilding a '62 Serro Scotty trailer for a friend, do some repairs and leak prevention on my own '61 Scotty (the silver trailer I got because I never, ever thought I would own an Airstream!), then the Airstream is next! I do love the big windows and the layout is pretty cool, too. I plan to change the front gaucho to a dinette. The center gaucho is so awkward in that one can't walk between it and the kitchen cabinets when it is pulled out as a bed. Things are really crammed in there, but what is to be expected for a 17' fully self contained trailer? Wally was a genius!

How does one post pictures? I have a whole album in Google Picasa...I see some info below and will give it a shot. Looks like I got it. A few pre-sale exterior shots, an interior shot, one of the Airstream being loaded onto the equipment trailer for the ride home, being unloaded by my Corvair Rampside, ad an artsy one by Lynn once it was home with the tulips and garden fence in the foreground. I paid $1000 for it and it was only 66 miles from home. Looking at a few years of resto...frame repairs this summer and new tires to make it towable, new floor and interior...and most likely all new major systems. What is more cost effective...replacing the old appliances or trying to get them to work?

It is hard for me to say this since I really only like...OK love, seven panel... If your going to own a trailer that says Bambi on it, the Bambi II is the best one to own!....
