You gearing up for Spring planting season yet?
|
We've been planting since mid-February. We have a large business of refilling people's pots & keeping them until May. We are so far behind on that part of the business because of the cold weather we've had. We should be swamped with customers for that end of the business for the next two weeks. Then I take a break & GO CAMPING!!! Whooo hoo!! (if I can get my trailer out of my muddy yard, that is!)
here's a picture of the greenhouse, a bit later last year, just to make you feel better about Spring....IT REALLY IS COMING!!!

I want to visit you
That greenhouse picture did it. I love stuff like that....and you have a Bambi too. If I had not been shocked to a complete stop when my Friend was hurt in my Red Barn I would have the Bubble Babs (Bubble #2) done and able to make a trip up that way this Spring. I'm telling you...that Greenhouse is NICE>
Oh yeah....I had to re-read your entire thread on the Bambi.

Thanks, Robin. I really do enjoy being creative in the greenhouse. Gardening was my first love, Airstreams were a bit later (oh, I do love my hubby too! lol! Just in case he ever reads this, which is a stretch! And without him, the greenhouse wouldn't exist!) We'd love to have you stop by!

After using the Bambi II several times, I've decided to make a couple of changes. First off, when I ordered my cushion foam, I ordered FIRM, because my bed at home is firm.
Well, let me tell you, commercial firm cushions are like a rock! So, I bit the bullet & had them changed out to medium. A lesson that cost me about $400!
I also changed my bed. I designed it to completely open so I could easily access the mechanics located under it. This made it very difficult to keep the wooden bed slides perfectly square for ease of pulling it out. I got frustrated with the bed every time I pulled it out. So, I tore the whole thing apart! I installed heavy duty drawer glides, and won't need legs. The top piece of plywood is connected to the wall by a piano hinge. I made an access door on the top if needed. It set the bed up about 2", so I had to remake the front skirt. The good news is that I can pull it pull it out easily by myself & push it in with one hand! I couldn't talk my DH into the linear actuator, but honestly, I think it's quicker to slide it out by hand. So now I have to varnish everything & reassemble. But when my DH & I go on our big road trip to the Keys next winter, setting up the bed will be a breeze!

I was perusing the Vintage Camper Trailer Facebook page a while ago. They asked for submissions to their "Special Collector's Edition". I gave it a whirl & sent them some pictures, and much to my surprise, the Bambi II made it in the magazine!! Here are picture of the magazine & my trayla! :-)

I subscribed on their website. I've received their magazine in orders from Vintage Trailer Supply. I'm not sure if they're on any stands...
I did use the trailer a couple times this summer. We went to Alumapalooza....the trailer was in a video Airstream put together promoting Alumapalooza for their "Live Riveted" campaign. And my sisters poodle was in it too :-). My hubby & I are going all the way down to the middle keys of Florida in January. Can't wait!!

My hubby & I just got back from a 3,000 mile trip to the Florida Keys with the Bambi II. I'm happy to report that she didn't fall apart & performed flawlessly! I'm also happy to report that my husband & I are still happily married after 2 weeks together in a 14 foot space! Here are a couple pix of our trip:

My cousin took us diving for lobsters....what a blast!!!

Bambi II Saved from Recycler!
I made a couple of improvements on the Bambi II. I first made a sewer hose holder out of a plastic fence post. It worked ok, but was rather tight, so this summer I made another one out of a larger fence post! So now one is for fishing poles or awning poles & the other for my stinky slinky.
Then I bought a 2' section of "the dominator" slinky & attached it to my dump waaaay under the trailer & then attached my Flush King, and another 10' section of the "dominator' . Oh.my.goodness!! No longer will I grovel with my flush king under the trailer! LOVE IT!!
And one more thing....I have this little plaque to hang in my Bambi II.
So fun!

Congratulations on the T.C.T. plaque Becky B., those are very, very hard to get, and shows that your 1964 Bambi II was best of the best, great job.

Becky- do you remember if you had to ream the hole in the black tank bigger to accept the toilet flange? I am getting ready to think about installing mine (from VTS) and when I took it out to dry fit it, the part that is supposed to fit down into the tank does not fit the original hole. The original hole is a little too small.
I am wondering if I can just enlarge it or if I need to try to figure out a different flange?
