Yesterday, my son, Paul dug out the tires (they were buried in about a foot of dirt. Hubby removed them & I took them this morning to the tire shop & had them filled. They're actually holding air. Today, my son, Joel & Hubby cut the rest of the trees out of the way while I was the toadie & moved all the small stuff out of the way. All that remains in the way is the huge log that the picture showed Paul sawing. I paid for the trailer & got the title in my hand today. Yeah! Tomorrow, if all works out, my husband & sons will go with the tractor & move the big log & tow the trailer to our farm. I will go armed with the camera!

I went into the trailer today (haven't been brave enough before) & the raccoons seemed to be potty trained. Right in the bathroom sink. Oh Yuck! I'm trying to think of a way to get it out without throwing up! I got some gloves tonight for just picking stuff up & throwing it in the dumpster (which I'm having my DH pull it up right next to) The guy I bought it from thinks I'm absolutely nuts. I told him I'd show him pictures in about 2 years!

One of the panels has corrosion all the way through in a spot. I may have to replace the panel. Don't know if a patch would be a good thing on a Bambi II? Well, that's a long way off!
Hopefully, I'll have pictures tomorrow of the extraction!

Sounds like you are having some good family time! Before you dive in to clean her out print off a picture of the finished trailer to the inside wall so you can focus on that instead of the nasty stuff! 1964BambiII_SO17410118

This is very exciting! Pictures will be a wonderful way to document the story- so that you can retell it at future Airstream rallies! I personally think that digging one out of the earth and bringing it back to its intended purpose is much more rewarding than buying one new or used from a dealer or private sale.

As for the panel- of course it would not be a bad thing to replace that. I am sure the exact panel you need is available.

As for the current owner- well, let him think you are nuts. I wonder if he knows the intrinsic worth of a vintage AS? Most people only see that worth once it is polished and completely finished. Only us diehards know that any AS is worth its' weight in aluminum (literally!)

I will look forward to the pictures of the extraction! It will be a much happier little trailer once it is resting at your place and out of the mud! And you won't be able to think of anything else but getting started on it!

Enjoy! Ben

Hi Becky,

I know how excited you are because we bought a 61 Bambi last November. The new still hasn't worn off even with the interior parts in every spare corner of our shop.
Congratulations on your find and "way to go" on determination to acquire it.
Now for the FUN.

Enjoy

Ralph

Adios, raccoons & rats & mice. Sorry to leave you homeless, but your home is now GONE!!! Yep, she's out of the woods & at the farm! YEAH!! Oh, but it's an awful mess. I put on the Hazmat suit & respirator & got to work right away. Dumpster is full, so I have to wait for it to get emptied before I can continue on. Here are the pictures of the extraction. My husband & son did all the work. I just took pictures! I don't know how to separate pictures with comments, but they pretty much speak for themselves. We paraded back to the farm (thank goodness for tractors!) & she's safe & sound!

Here's some of what I found (& me in my suit) I think the bellypan is completely full of foam rubber & leaves. Fun & games! And the rats ate the interior wall behind the couch. Sorry, I forgot to turn the picture of my beautiful outfit.

Great find! Which I could be lucky enough to find an old one like you found.
Oh no, I think I feel a fever coming on, could it be that aluminitis everyone talks about?

Two things - (1) that suit is real funny (but a must) with pink respirator..... (2) you have more pictures of the tractor?

Great find, keep the pictures rolling.

You like tractors? Obviously, so does my husband. He likes to line them up like matchboxes sometimes. Kinda like me & Airstreams....except I don't have quite as many as he does. I try not to know. That's his deal! Gotta love him, though! He humors me with my obsession!
