The Bambi II was a one-year model. It was an extension of the 1961-1963 Bambi that was 16-feet; while the Bambi II came in at 17-feet. In
1965, the Bambi II would become the
Caravel.
The Bambi II was a low production trailer, but as with most Airstreams, finding a definitive number of a particular unit that was produced has proven difficult. From the reading that I have done on
1964 Airstreams, I haven't found a definitive production number for any of the 1964 models. Today, the 1961-1963 Bambi as well as the 1964 Bambi II enjoy great popularity with collectors . . . in fact, in many cases, one of these Bambis will typically command a higher price than a similar model year Airstream 24-feet or longer.
Airstream didn't begin producing owners' manuals until 1964 so they were a brand-new feature in 1964. I do know that the same owners' manual was utilized with all of the larger 1964 Airstreams with the page identifying the model being the only difference in the original manuals. I have heard of at least two explanations regarding the 1964 Bambi II . . . one that it too came with the "standard" 1964 manual with the single-page model information referencing the Bambi II . . . the other explanation that I have heard is that the "standard" 1964 Airstream manual was provided with no specific model page, but a multi-page Bambi II supplement was inserted at the front of the manual. In either case, it is possible to purchase a copy of the 1964 manuals from the Airstream store, and while the 1964 Bambi II isn't listed . . . I suspect a call to Airstream might find that a copy can be had. Until quite recently, a company called Secretarial Services in Jackson Center, Ohio would (for a fee) provide copies of any Airstream manual from 1964 on . . . but the last that I heard, the owners were retiring and there was a question of whether the service would continue.
Good luck with your Bambi II!
