Thanks for the input! Funhouse, I am not worrying too much about the rain. I am doing the floor with the body-on method so once it is inside the trailer it is out of the weather. I have been lucky to pick some good dry spells to cut out the wood. Once it is painted with good oil based paint, water is not too much of a concern. I was a little upset yesterday as I entered the trailer and found a few puddles. I left the windows open after working on it, so I hope that was the problem and not leaks. I will be looking further into this as we are expecting more rain this weekend and next week. If we do get rain I will spend some time getting more photos on here. I will admit that it is difficult keeping things up here and working on the trailer. There doesn't seem to be enough time in the day.

HiHo, I was thinking of a similar option, but I was going to go directly under the black tank with this...

Valterra 3" reducing tee

I think I can use this under the tank with two valves, one for black and one for grey? I keep thinking I'll work out the tank and plumbing issues, but I am holding off on purchases until I get closer to that point. I don't want to order a bunch of stuff, then decide to go a different direction.

The weekend is here! I need to get to work on the trailer now!!!

Joqin,
The water heater wasn't in the best shape, but it may have worked if I could have found an original gas control. Knobs were missing and I didn't trust it since everything else was being torn out and new floors were going in. I still have the old one though. I remember seeing rust on the burner tube, but I don't know if it is rusted through, I'll have to check. I would be glad to send any parts you might need. I'll try to take some close up photos when I get a chance.

burner tube

thanks, jewel 65....we call ours tin man. if the burner tube insn't rusted thru, I can shine it up and reuse it. and I would pay postage of course!!
Do you have an airstream manual?? I have one I could copy, but if you put in all new stuff, most of the operating instructions wouldn't apply! joe Q in MN

Joqin,
I meant to take a photo of that burner tube this weekend, but we spent most of it replacing the axle. That's my latest update here... the Airstream has a new axle installed!!! I'll get some photos of that burner tube soon. I'll have to take a look at how to disassemble it, but I'm sure I can figure that out.

We are trying to keep this old Caravel as original as possible. I think these old trailers are well thought out and I don't want to mess with that too much. A new water heater, and replacing the original heater with an Olympic will be the only real change. I do have a copy of the manual, but it is not original. It came with the Caravel.

BTW, I am looking for an original Bowden door. The one that has the punched holes in it. I have some sheet aluminum that is punched, and will try to make a replica if I can't find an original. If anybody has one they want to sell, let me know.

burner tube

thanks,jewel65, I appreciate the effort and I understand the distractions that happen with these things. I am always looking for vintage parts so I'll keep an eye out. joe q in Minnesnowda

A little restoration update here. I have been working behind the scenes a little. I have been working with VTS on a black tank option that all Caravel owners will want to hear about. Steve Hingtgen of Vintage Trailer Supply is going to produce a black tank in polyethylene that will fit in the original location but will be a little bigger than stock. We are finalizing the design now. There is more discussion about this in the plumbing section of the forum here...

I was looking at your photos and wanted to know if you replaced your wheel wells? Curb side on mine was destroyed by a broken spindle street side was minorly rusted so for 40 bucks I had to made to replace both. They are mounted with tabs that sit between the floor and frame.
