New to all of this. Looking for a walk thru.
Hello everyone,
I am COMPLETELY new to trailers and I am the proud (but somewhat overwhelmed) new owner of a 1965 Caravel 17'. She is parked at my house in Central Austin.
I am wondering if anyone near Austin would be wiling to meet up and walk me through my trailer. I can barter beer or tacos for one's time, of course!
Conversely, I can probably come up with a reason to make the drive up as far as North DFW area, or down to Houston or San Antonio.
Just wondering if anyone out there would enjoy taking a "newbie" under their wing...
Thanks y'all!

Free beer and tacos? You'll be drowning in responses to your offer!
Congratulations on your acquisition, and welcome to the family!

Welcome to the Airstream family. That model was my parents first Airstream. Wish that I still had it!! Have had my eye on one about 50 miles away for the last 8 years, but the old couple won't part with it. I stop in every spring to see if they want to sell, but no luck yet. Will be stopping soon again!!! If I was closer, the taco's and beer sound great!!! Chris

Wish I was closer - not for the beer and tacos, but because I always love to check out another Caravel!

Tell us more about the AS.. How did you come to be in possession of the AS? Do you know about it's history? Has it been used recently, etc..
We live in Round rock.. it's not quite as far as Dallas.. but it is North of Pflugerville...
Perhaps we can begin with a phone call.. Beer and tacos.. might be good...

Go to the Texas Vintage Ralley in a couple of weeks
The Texas Vintage Ralley starts the end of this month. This year it will be a few miles West of Houston.
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f289...+vintage+rally
Highly recommend you sign up. Registration deadline for meals is April 16.
No registration and no fees if you just want to walk in on the open house day and look around and ask questions.

Come up here, by Denton, you can plug in here or at the State Park (John Branch...Lake Ray Roberts.) Then be sure to go to the Vintage Rally....you will be ready for it. PS...Beer and tacos.

I technically did say beer or tacos... but I'm willing to splurge!
Darn - I am out of town for the Rally. I'm sure that would really have been a helpful and fun event to attend. Maybe next year.
About the AS... Well, I probably shouldn't admit this here, it was a bit of a whim and I found it on ebay. It seemed like a good idea in theory, now I am, as I said, a bit overwhelmed. But I am optimistic that this is going to be the start of a great (albeit expensive) adventure!
CWF - Thanks for the offer. I will get in touch with you off forum!
Thanks everyone for the offers of help, support and information!

New to all of this. Looking for a walk thru.
Hi there! I won't claim to be an expert at all but I'm in central Austin as well and have a '58 flying cloud.
I picked it up last summer in Northern California, with no idea what I was doing, and have done a whole lot of renovation/restoration since then..with the help of a restoration company and then my Dad, as well as this forum of course. I have learnt a lot but still have a ways to go too.
Happy to meet up & compare notes if you're interested

Here are some pics of her.
The PO thought she might have been a showroom display model as she had awnings on all 4 sides and a few other small details that seem rare.
Looking forward to playing.
I think I first need to figure out an air conditioner option.. as summer is coming in Texas!

Looks like great condition already. What are you plans for her?
I'm also looking for someone local to get the air conditioning (and some other electrical work) sorted too. I use mine as a home office (when I'm not traveling) and realize without AC I won't be able to keep that up much longer.

My 65 Caravel.
I have a 65 Caravel that I have owned for about 20 years, mine was in about the same condition as yours. The restoration took very little. I am sure you will love the little guy once you are using it.

I don't pull the Caravel with the MG but it makes a cute pic.

Hi, I too have a '65 Caravel, here in San Antonio. She looks beautiful. I frequent Austin from time to time, I have many friends there and used to live there years ago, we are actually contemplating moving back there this year. At some point I'd be happy to see yours.
