And he has more...

I've been to three rallys with IH Collector. At each rally he has had a different International Harvester as his tow vehicle. Totally cool!

the IH Scout in the photo ad is a 65 sport top special edition ,fiberglass
removable top ,4 cylinder only ,and believe it or not a turbocharged option
was available ,I restored a standard 65 with the turbo ,not a barn burner ,but pretty neat. It wood be pretty interesting to tow an airstream with the scout
even up to the last year body style shown ,1971 mid year ,when the scout II
was introduced, because the brakes were horrible ,very small 9" brakes front
and rear ,10" with the V-8 option in 66 to 71 800B model ,no power assist
and small 4 speed trans ,no power steering ,but they were a rugged little
off road rig ,extremely capable off road as designed .In addition they had a
100" wheel base and were very short vehicals .The travelall on the other hand was very suitable TV and was a regular presence in most of the Wally
Byam caravans as shown in most old photos and literature of the day.
I myself being a IH fan tow with with a 68 travelall and its really cool to
keep in time with the good old days .

I had a '62 hardtop, it was a great little workhorse until the body rotted off it. My most memorable moment in it was when I bumped my tear gas cannister on the steering wheel, and it went off. I had to drive to work in -20 degree weather with my head hanging out the window.

How many of us even have a personal tear gas canister? There's something to the phrase, "40 below keeps the riff-raff out," 'cept that isn't so true lately ...

Mine was part of my work outfit. You know, handcuffs, tear gas, .38 revolver, etc...It's been a while, no one has carried .38s for a long time, but believe me when I say that episode left a memory that won't go away...

We had a 6? Travel all that we called the Great White Hope, it was great (big) and white and we hoped it would a)start and b) make it where ever we were heading The other odd thing I remember about it was the spare fuel tank that you filled thru the front fender.

your right, the fuel fill is in the front fenders of the travelall and the tanks
mount under the body outside of the frame .Certainly not a safe design
but then I never heard much of any troubles with crashes ,although Im sure
some did. The IH factor is really a love /hate relationship as I had a 70 Scout
and now the travelall and you love em and hate em all at the same time.
The early scouts 61 to 71 were not for the meek or weak ,but the hardy soul.
looking to strengthin his or her arms driving one and their legs stomping down
on the brake to stop it. Really ,the scout was more love/hate ,but the
travelall is pretty cool .mine has been extremely reliable starting running
etc ,my brother did burn up the clutch 4 wheeling it once ,but its been great.
I will admit that Ive upgraded the brakes to disc and the suspension for
better stability on the road etc .IH certainly was going for the Heavy Duty
aspect ,not the comfort aspect ,but it does have factory A/C which works.
