Good Lord.......after Hours of getting myself re-acquainted with the dramatic debates of old that I had read so many times in the past.... is it acceptable to ask what the model and part number of a shock absorber for a 1965 Caravel without being directed to the many threads about axle replacement????

Is it possible to just get a specification of a shock absorber for a pre-1969 Airstream?

I find it ironic that, with so many models of Airstreams and so many axle choices....ONE shock fits EVERY Airstream produced since 1969.....(one vendor evens advertises that the THE shock they sell fits EVERY Airstream ever produced)

YES....I understand that an Airstream that is more than 25 years old is an absolute candidate for an axle replacement

If anyone can answer this question, I am all but certain that this will be the only place it will be answered....must be some kind of ancient Chinese secret...I guess

Sorry you've been having trouble getting the answer you need. It may be that no one you spoke with knows the answer, so they're just trying to be as helpful as possible.

Andy isn't at Inland RV anymore, so we can't ask him, but I wouldn't be surprised if their claim that this one shock fits all Airstream models is correct, at least for all the models that used torsion axles.

Do you have an old axle you can measure against? Is there some reason you think this one might not fit? Maybe you could call Inland and ask if they'd take a return if it didn't fit?

Why not just order 2 shocks for a total of $70, using a credit card that will protect you if the shocks don't fit?

The listing for the part clearly states "for all years and models" so you are protected.

I don't think fitting is the main concern...it most likely is orientation, almost horizontal. A gas replacement may not be effected.

I agree that the buy and try mitigation is feasible....Lord knows I have gone this route numerous times with so many things....

The only reason I question the one size fits all is that the same shock is specified to fit "all from 1969 and up"

I will more than likely give it a shot...I was hoping that an owner of a "1965 any Airstream" would specify a shock that they have actually installed or had installed on an original axle.

As for the "debates of old"....Many do not know that I was one of the early members of this site and even though there are current members with 10K posts (egad!), I found humor in reading the old debates that I too was probably even a participant....a true flashback....a good one

If you're not able to locate the information, it sounds like you're in a unique position to contribute to the knowledge of the community! If you buy and try, be sure to report back with your results. If you have to return for poor fitment, I'd also be curious to hear how good the new Inland ownership's customer service experience is.
