Start with newspaper and a felt tip pen and tape to floor.
Push excess paper snug up the wall, mark vertex with pen,
Transfer to cardboard & cut out along ink line.

I use what they used to call "red rosin" paper, it is available from your local home building center. I think they call it "builders paper" or "slip Sheet" it is a gray or brown color and available in the roofing section. It is stiff enough that you don't have to make the transfer to cardboard. What I do is get a piece fitted to one side by marking and cutting, then bring a piece in for the other side and do the same thing. When I am happy with the fit, while they are still in place on the floor tape them together with masking tape, then you have a full sized pattern. Hope this makes it clear.... I use it for making patterns for my vinyl too.

Tony & Linda Starbird,
I also have a 1965 Caravel. Send me your email address, I'd like to exchange ownership experiences.

You can also get a template kit at your local hardware store's vinyl flooring department. I think it is made by Mannington. It basically contains a bunch of paper and a tracing wheel that lets you create a full-size paper pattern of the floor which you then lay down over your one-piece of sheet flooring, carpet or vinyl, and then cut away.

I used it on my Minuet flooring which came out great!! It is basically designed for sheet vinyl but I see no reason you couldn't use it for carpet as well.
