For Sale

Check out the ad in the classifieds. Here's a few photos of Mbuti (pygmy in swahili). She's in great shape, but I need the parking space for other projects. Many of you have seen the threads on the new A/C, Fantastic Fan, Axis Axle, and Banana Skin repair.

Disregard the color coding in the drawing. The fridge, stove, and closet are new. Also, the single seat on the street side of the dinette was never installed (extra cost option, of course).

Does the bathroom work and what about the floor? Any rot? Could I make a bunk bed above the back bed? Erica

Hey, Kiddo. We wear your T-shirts proudly!

Bath works great. If you made a bunk, you'd have to take out the over-bed shelf/storage. Remember, there is a window over the bed, so the bunk would have to be high (the shelf has about, oh heck, for you I'll go measure it...). It has 16" clearance to the shell, which is pretty much max if you put the bunk above the window. No structural reason you'd have to put it that high. The partition between the bed and fridge is 1/2" birch, so it's plenty strong to provide support.

Rot--no. No soft spots anywhere. But at the very tail end, under the head of the bed and back where the battery and Intellipower and plumbing resides, the plywood has some surface damage from a previous battery spill. Lots of baking soda seems to have fixed that.

Awsome!!

Thank you! I sure enjoyed the rally and meeting you. You are amazing and I know your trailer probably is too. Also, what is opposite the front sofa? A desk? Didn't see it in the photos. You think a bunk above front would work? Just trying to accomodate my son. Erica

The front "sofa" is really a bench [with cushion] that seats two. In front of it is a stub table. It was really intended to be for drinks and snacks, but turned out to be just wide enough for two plates. So we never got motivated to install the leaf that extends out to make a real table. The leaf is finished, but I never got around to the attaching hardware. I leave that as an exercise for the student...or a small extra cost option if the buyer doesn't feel capable. The leaf is included for free.

A small kid, maybe up to age 5 or so, could easily sleep in the storage shelf above the bed.

A bunk above the front would work if you could put it up temporarily. Remember, the radio and book/magazine box is up there.

I think a better option would be to use the bench and the area in front of it for a cot-width sleeping platform. You'd might be able to store the platform in the back of the bench, but you I'd plan to put it in the tow vehicle as an alternative.

Wow Roger - didn't know you had this one - very nice - for those of you thinking about this - Roger is a presenter at the Restoration Rally and his work is absolutely incredible - the price is right (I think its a bit low) and with the quality of his work you can be assured of getting a VERY nice trailer...

Thanks, Ken. If it doesn't sell, I'll bring it down next year. I really don't want to get rid of it--if I do it means I'll have to get to work on the Safari so I have something that's reasonably short! This was really my first major Airstream remodeling effort. The only big task I'd do if I kept it is go back and replace all the copper with PEX, which is about a two day job. I've gone out in some pretty miserable weather, something I didn't really plan on doing much of when I put the new copper in.

Roger

I can only tell you that I had a 59 - same size and floor plan - I regretting big time selling it - it was in incredible condition - I need to invent an a... kicking machine I liked that trailer so much - yours certainly has me thinking, its a great size for one or two people to throw on the back of your vehicle and take off for a weekend.

Since you have the larger trailer - may I suggest you keep this one and sell the Safari as its a bigger trailer - this way you would have the larger trailer for traveling and this small one for quick trips... Just a thought.

Great Trailer

Ken,
No need to invent a machine, you can't go wrong on Roger's trailer...it's small, it's priced slightly below market, and you are very close.....Remember the cyclo, and Honda 1000 gen......Make the move or you WILL need to invent that machine.

Hope you are doing well.

NICE TRAILER ROGER.

Best Regards,
Levon

Called her.
She and I drooled over this for an hour. Karen and her husband go gold prospecting and gem hunting and she says this is too beautiful to wreck on the gold claims. She wants a Casita - which actually makes sense for the places they go and the things they do. When she gets one and visits us at a forum rally we promise to gift wrap it in aluminum foil to fit in.

Zep, I just LOVE your cabinet work. You've really squeezed a lot more use out of every inch of space than I could have imagined. The dish drawer is brilliant. I wish I had your skills.

Doing a short Airstream is more difficult because you really don't want to waste a single cubic inch. What you don't see in the photos is the 9-bottle wine rack under the other end of the bench seat. You also don't see the storage shelf that's behind and above the dishes--uses that little triangle of space that the rotating dish drawer can't. The shelf is big enough for a few bottles of propane and one of those round catalytic heaters.

My skills are a lot of trial and error. For example, the joint at the end of the over-kitchen cabinet is something I'd like to replicate in the Overlander, so I went out and took a look at the joint. It's been three weeks and I still can't figure out how I made it...

I think the tilt-out idea for the dishes is the best. I have two other dish drawers on drawer glides. They do fine, even though they are heavy, unless they get loose while traveling, then it's a potential disaster. I've had it happen twice, with no broken dishes, but the rollers on the glides get bent interesting ways and it's a real heart attack when you open the door and see the drawer on the floor... bungees--hate 'em but use 'em. One of these days I will figure out an elegant drawer restraint system.

Zep
