Wally's Original Plans

I have heard a reference to Wally's original 1936 plans that cost a meer $5. Does anyone out there actually have a set of these $5 plans. I think it would be cool to use the plans to build one.

I asked Pee Wee if he had a set and he thinks he does. He has to look through his papers.

If he has them you know there will be a lot of DIY going on around here.

I saw a set of PeeWee's plans at the RMVAC Rally. The ones he brought are different from Doc Holman's Torpedo plans (which I have also seen)...they are very cool though!

PeeWee did say there was a possiblity of sharing them at some point in some form. I know he and Fred are working together to make lots of his archived info available. He may also have Torpedo plans as he has a huge collection of Wally's personal files.

I read all those threads and... so no plans actually exist, right? It is all an urban myth? Wally and his mail order plans my be in posession of someone named Doc JR and he will not share them... therfore no one really knows if they do exist? I am confussed.

Inside out, that is a cool avatar.

Doc Holman Jr. has the set of plans his father used to build his Torpedo - the one & only one known to be in existance. I have seen this copy - they do exist - but he's not sharing.

PeeWee may have another copy in his boxes & boxes of paperwork (formerly belonging to Wally) that were in his mother's (Helen Schwamborn) possession until her recent death.

There may be other undiscovered copies still out there.

Shari, I can't get over that cool avitar... my trailer is still pewter, would look cool to see a before and after with the polish job.

So these "plans" that you have seen... they say "Airstream" or Wally Byum on them? If they did than someone should be able to build from them and that trailer would, by being a Wally design, be allowed to participate in the club. Are the plans kept top secret because there is no real connection to Airstream or Wally? Do you know how to reach this Doctor Holman? Not that I do not have a lot going on already, but this seems like a challange that I need to undertake....I want to build a torpedo from the original plans. As a tribute to Wally Byum. Even if the club didn't recognize it as an Airstream, so what...

PeeWee will be at the Dead Horse Rally in February. I am sure that question will come up. If you would like to be there, follow the link at the bottom...

My Aero-engineer friend and I are currently reverse engineering my 86. I'll be running all the numbers this winter. There will be some interesting changes made all around. The shell will be a beautiful black carbon fibre gloss finish. Now accepting donations! DG

He is a WBCCI member and has attended the three International Rallies I have...I expect he will again in Bozeman.
