Exactly. Thieves aren’t carefully aligning hitch balls and couplers - they’re connecting emergency chains and running fast. If you see a trailer being towed on chains - call the police. It’s either an actual emergency or a robbery in progress. Either way, the cops should be able to help.

I use a Proven Industries hitch lock that is made to fit Airstreams and I also use the Brahma wheel lock, it is a wheel boot.
Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

Till I read about stealing with the emergency chaings, thought my Hensley hitch would act as a deterrent.

As I read the sales info I see that even the proven industries does not provide for the chain storage which seems the easiest way for a thief to steal your trailer.

So the decision is $300.00 for the lock or 1000.00 deductible on the insurance. Spend the $300.00 and you still may see your trailer going down the road attached with the tow chains.

Anti-theft devices

Nothing is 100% but we use Proven Locks 2178 E - All Steel - Heavy Duty Design - Anti Theft Trailer Coupler Lock ( fits 2" Raised Trigger Latch Couplers ). It's available on Amazon for around $250. You'd pretty much have to have a blow torch to get past it. We have a padlock on our tow chains. A determined thief could get past that but the idea is to make it not worth the trouble, or at least that the would-be thief would make enough ruckus to be noticed.

A tow truck does not need your safety chains to tow it. I have seen tow trucks get trailers that people thought safe from being reposessed and several that were pur. with out any way to move. As stated many times bad guy wants it's gone no matter what you do.

Don't need vicious dogs inside the AS--they will get ignored, dognapped and possibly hurt.

Parked within sight of my house, and has a "life member" NRA sticker on it as a gentle warning...

The little dog pack I have loves to bark at suspicious outside activity, so I can investigate and respond as needed. I'm very sensitive to my dogs barking--to me, it's a lot like the 'General Quarters' alarm on the Navy ship I was on...and gets a similar 'full battle rattle' response instantly.

*ball hitch lock
*hitch pin
*chains thru tires

Does that cover it?
I have a Hensley hitch for sale and with a Hensley it is hard to tow a trailer away.

Easiest way NOT to get a trailer stolen is NOT to own one.

With that being said you just try to make it difficult for a thief. If that means slapping a sticker on the window with a threat of you killing someone...ok...but I just try to make it more difficult so a thief will go steal YOUR trailer...not mine.

Rivet New Apple Airtag

Hi fellow aluminum fever sufferers! I have a 1966 17’ Caravel. Her name is Shiny Hiney! Without bias I can say that she is the talk of the campground wherever we go. I currently use a MegaHitch and a pin lock. Taking the tires off is not something I want to do as I travel alone. I am considering a boot. I follow the threads about anti or slow down theft devices regularly as I want to make sure I am up to date on any new ideas. I have just received the new Apple Airtag and am looking forward to seeing how this works as a tracker. Is anyone else using an Apple Airtag? Let’s share information.
Here is a link that describes what it is:

https://www.apple.com/airtag/?afid=p...lid---product-

I have no connection to or financial gain from this link.

I've not studied it yet, but I wonder if the AirTag sends out a signal that any thief can detect and, therefore, (1) know it is there and (2) trace the signal to remove it from the trailer?

Cheers,

Bryan

If any one is concerned about safety chains being used for theft there is simple solution. Pur egg butt that is a loop open ends screw together, one end in chain other in welded loop on a frame [pur same size as chain] after unhooking from hitch simply take chains off. Egg butts when ends screwed together just as strong as chains if same diameter. Caveat remember to lube once in awhile as turn barrel will rust so can not unscrew but will take time to rust.

I use the Proven Industries one made for AS’s. I like it because it also locks up the chains too.
