Hopefully I’ll get my 15” Sendel wheels w GYE tires actually mounted on the trailer this Wednesday. Our 23FB is up at the farm. The tires and wheels are here at home. Can’t dewinterize yet with all these nights in the 20s.
I’ll post a pic once they are mounted. Hoping I can reuse the lugnuts and center hubs.. I was reluctant to buy the lugnuts in advance. Going with a solid polished lugnut vs the two piece covered lugnut that’s there. (If I can get the old ones off)

FYI, we bought our Sendel wheels from ETrailer.com. Ordered the tires and had them mounted through auto tire. Goodyear had $60 off through March.

Many, including myself, have also upgraded to the SenDel T02-56545T. This is a 15" wheel with 5-lug holes.

I went with the Michelin Defenders, but my next tire is going to be the Nokian Rotiiva AT LT 235/75/R15 116/113 S E1. It is a true LT (light truck) tire, which the Michelin is not, with a load rating of 2760 lbs. at 80 PSI.

I also have the Michelin Defenders and really like them. I run them at 35psi per the load rating pressure chart for these tires. I have over 8000 miles on them in all temps and they are performing great. Monitor pressure and temp with Dill internal TPMS.

Fishindog, I did my 15” tire and wheel upgrade yesterday. Pretty easy actually.
No issues with the trailer as far as clearance is concerned. I also like the extra clearance for the dump valves in the back. I’m still plannning on doing the 3” lift when I get up to Portland. I was able to use the same lugnuts, and center caps for the wheels.
I did go with the Goodyear Endurance trailer tires, and plan on running them at 75 psi. Way overkill for the 23FB, I will watch and see if the possibly rougher ride causes any issues with the trailer.

Just travel slow, miss the chuck holes, avoid frost heaved highways and secure the cabin before you tow. Pat

Thanks all for the tire and wheel recommendations! I’ll go with the SenDel T03-56545T rims and it seems the major contenders on tires are the Michelin Defenders or the Goodyear Endurance. Stock size on the 2018 23fb is 225/r75/15. Is that the size most go with or the 235/r75/15?

Tire Rack does not show a 235 for the Goodyear Endurance. They only show the 235 for Michelin. So, it looks like the size choice will be decided from the tire brand choice, at least with these two product lines.

Luck with your choice. Pat

I went with the heavier duty of the two 15” tires. Even though my trailer came with 14” C rated tires. (I think). It wasn’t much more for the heavier load rated tire. I was hoping it wouldn’t/couldn’t hurt. With doing the swap out the other day, there is definitely more weight to the newer tire and wheel. Loading them in and out of the Tundra and lifting them up on to the lugnuts, I could feel the difference.

After reading about the Goodyear lawsuit yesterday (USA Today and Jalopnik), that they knew of RV tire failures for over 20 years, underreported the number of failure claims it had received to federal regulators, and did not disclose internal test results, I would not feel compeled to purchase another Goodyear product. Especially when there are alternatives.

The report is an example of outragious company behavior.

Perhaps this relevation of GoodYear's cover up of their defective GYM tires may lead to many class action lawsuits to recover the millions of dollars of damage expense and deaths caused by the GYM tires failing. Both individuals and the insurance companies could seek redress.

Would serve them right.

We have replaced the stock GYM tires with appropriately sized Michelin tires on all three of our Airstreams as soon as I got them home, or in the case of the 23D, on the dealers lot before departing with the new unit.

LUG NUTS

If you haven’t replaced your stainless steel capped lug nuts you are driving on borrowed time. I replaced my four year old ones today. Fully 80% (16 of 20) had cracked and would have failed at the most worst time. I bought 20 new solid steel chrome ones at the auto swap meet for $20. You can get them for the same price on Amazon. 1/2x20 right thread is the correct size.

Thanks for posting the right size. I just took all 20 of mine on and off last week. I think at least three had a split in the cover. I just wasn’t sure with even taking one into a store if I could match thread size, and depth. Too short wouldn’t be good.
Thanks again.

Do you know if later year model AS have solid lug nuts?
I have a 2017 and I think they are solid.

Ok,, Are the McGard ones that much better @ $16 for four?
The DP Lugnuts are $23 for 20. They should be here by the 13th. I’ll let you know what I think.

Have been very happy with the splined DP Gorrilla nuts. A bit harder for the bad guys to remove. Not a big deal to carry the adapter socket. Pat

2018 FC 23FB - Location of Water Pump and Water Heater By-pass

Still trying to find our way around our new 23FB. We are taking it out this weekend and will be boondocking so we need to de-winterize for the first time, but given the crazy weather in Colorado, I will likely be winterizing it again before the end of spring.

I have a winterizing kit that I want to install at the fresh water pump that will let me pump antifreeze in but I have a problem. I am not sure where the water pump is located on the 23FB. And while I am at it, what about the water heater by-pass valve and the low point drains? I thought I found the "secret compartment" under the pantry between the sink and the bathroom but no luck or at least it wasn't obvious through that tiny opening. Hopefully that isn't it or I will have to find someone with smaller hands than me to get in there.

Pump is under the curb side closet. Panel in bottom of closet comes up. It's a bit hidden but there.

The bypass valves are in the cabinet under the street side closet. It has no handle, but opens like a door.

Good luck with your trip.

I would likely leave it winterized and use bottled water, but running the systems and then draining again is good practice.

Go for it. Pat

Thank you Pat. That's a huge help!

We did one trip with bottle water which certainly worked fine. We talked about doing this weekend that way as well but I figured the practice is good plus it will give us the opportunity to do a full test of everything before we get into the prime season.

All the best!
