Well done, Ronnie! Before I completely button up my aluminum spacer support mod, I'll do as you did and pull the cabinets down and install Jack Nuts.

Running my 15K unit on a Honda EU2000

So today was the first time I have gotten to try my new 15K A/C unit with MicroAir installed on a Honda EU2000 Generator.
I do not own a EU2000 but my next door neighbor does so I was able to borrow his for testing purposes.
I had to turn off my Progressive Industries Hardwired EMS-HW30C RV Surge & Electrical Protector, I guess due to no ground on the Generator.
After that to my delight everything ran as it should. I was able to cycle the A/C unit on and off and ran the unit for about 1hr with no problems. Generator voltage remained steady and Amp draw was within range. I was even able to run the fridge on electric vs propane with out over loading the generator.
Here’s a photo of my monitoring set up.

I do not have a Rivnut Kit and would love to buy a set for my tool kit that I carry with me on our travels. Care to share what make/model of this kit you speak of? Thanks in advance!

Yup. Exactly. Here's what's going on with this:

The portable generators have a floating (unbonded) neutral. In a normal shore power connection, the neutral and ground leads from the AS are tied together back at the home distribution panel or in the pedestal, which is properly code compliant. The neutral and ground is NEVER tied in the Airstream power panel, also per code.

An easy fix is an ordinary duplex (three prong household type) replacement plug with a 12-14 gauge jumper wire run between the safety earth U-ground prong (green screw) and the neutral narrow prong (silver screw). Plug this modified connector into a duplex outlet on your generator to tie neutral to ground. This properly ties neutral to ground at the power source like the EMS is expecting and requiring, and allows the EMS to protect you from generator faults.

If you are really being careful with this, you should connect a heavy wire from the generator ground lug to a eight foot driven ground rod or a proper metal water pipe ground for extra safety, per code. I don't know about you, but I don't carry eight foot copperweld ground rods in my spares kit in the trailer, nor do I normally carry a sledge hammer, and 'John Henry' to drive it in properly...

In a pinch I would use the car jumper cables or a heavy flat braid RF ground strap to tie the ground lug to a water pipe, because I play with radios, and RF grounds are important to me--especially when the outside of the trailer can be 'hot' with RF. Dogs and wives do NOT like getting RF burns from the door handle or the trailer steps, just sayin...

Here’s the one I have. P/N 70-1000. I got it for 140.00 because I called them and asked for their best price.

Thanks for the information on the extra insulation in the refrigderator compartment and the water heater problem. Our 2019 International was assembled with the same design problems as in several year old models, unfortunately. I added insulation to the refrigerator compartment as described earlier in the thread. In addition, I have sprayed insulation under the hot water heater tank due to the terrible way airstream design decided to tie down or support the tank. I was hoping they would change the design but, it didn't happen.
Thanks in advance for the heads up on potential problems.

My guess - That looks like an Innova battery monitor, plugged into a 12v outlet.

That's the new Armagadd-O-Meyer "Zombie Tracker Mk. II" with optional upgraded ectoplasm detector.

Either that or the voltage meter thingie

That old photo was BC (before curtains). The factory gizmo that was there has been replaced with the Wingard signal strength meter.

This is a Honda EU2000 Generator even though it’s BLUE. I do not own one so for testing purposes (and to try before I buy) I borrowed it from my next door neighbor, Jason Christy. He Is. professional angler on the BASS and FLW tour so everything he owned is wrapped with his logos. That’s just what those guys do. So his Honda EU2000 is wrapped to match.

Jeez the route for my next trip is getting insane. First to Parker CO so Rich can install a custom solar/lithium ion system. Then down to Hurst TX so Rob can beef up my bath cabinet, make me a custom sink cover, and a custom side counter extension, and storage behind the curbside dinette rear cushion. Then over to Alabama so Ronnie can install a custom 3" lift kit.

Anything major that I'm forgetting? (I can handle all the other little cool things).

Consider this. What “IF” I were to store someone’s airstream over the winter and did some of the MODS we’ve done to our units. It would have to be the right situation but I would love the project. The owner would be responsible for the cost of parts and minimal labor.
Just a thought. I’m sure you all think I’m crazy.

Genset Install

Just finished installing an ATS and Honda EU3000is on our 23.

Had the frame reinforced by a chassis fabricator.

So nice to have AC and full power while in the Mohave Desert during summer.

Photos and rendering of cad design attached.

Welcome to the forum!

Do you realize that your installation probably exceeds Airstream's design parameters for the allowable weight back there, and that you may encounter sway conditions beyond your control?

This has been discussed in many threads, which can be found via the following search results [using the new search function in the blue box above]:

"rear hitch" -- https://www.google.com/search?q=rear...=airforums.com
"Fiamma bike rack" -- https://www.google.com/search?q=Fiam...=airforums.com
"out of control sway" -- https://www.google.com/search?q=out+...=airforums.com

Quebec Roll Over: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f48/...ec-153984.html
Idaho Roll Over: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f238...ay-156615.html
Bumper bike rack: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f477...de-185802.html

The above threads and posts have generated lots of disagreement and heated discussions, and are for your information, and for what it's worth. The sole intent is to prevent harm to your family and the motoring public.

Good luck,

Peter
