Congrats Peter. Similar issues here last fall towing my 23 down logging roads in the UP. Some reinforcement is certainly needed with the cabinets.
The front wall in the bed area of mine has a folding mirror attached to it,(I always wondered why they would put a mirror there vs putting one on the bathroom door?)
Anyway the clip is busted and that will be coming out. Will put a shelf in there to store a cell phone for charging etc. Also planning to put a shelf or small cabinet near the back window of the bed on the bathroom wall.

Welcome Sandypoint and congratulations to you also. May you enjoy the new 23 as much as we all do.
Some great memories of canoe trips through the Adirondacks and passing down Long Lake.

Curious if anybody has upgraded the screws holding the cabinet doors to the cabinets, either with longer screws (if the back side unreachable) or through-bolting with a screws and nuts? Maybe a bit much some might think, but I have an affinity for bumpy dirt roads as opposed to campgrounds

Congrats on getting the rig. Sounds like a beauty. There is a great thread somewhere in the forums by Ray Eklund, where he discusses all the screws and reinforcements he did on his 23D. I don’t have time to track it down, but it’s a great read and helpful on how to make your 23D boondocking ready and stout.

Thanks I will look it up for sure. Ray has certainly paid his dues on this forum!

Now if only I had a new garage like you do so I could just wander 20 feet to turn wrenches and just sit inside, dreaming up new things she 'needs.'

I must say Peter, it is nice. Ronnie warned me. Yesterday I just decided to clean her up and did a complete wash down inside, every surface etc, it’s so easy to just go out and do a few things.... the list of mods is getting bigger and bigger, we all just add to the madness...

I would have never thought about dropping my tanks, but darn it, that work Ronnie did has me thinking about it now

That was an awesome project, esp with the improvements he made (that drain valve though...swoooon....)! But...back away from the edge! It was a leak that finally forced the issue. Go camping (with all that sweet solar you have).

Mine is in the driveway for a couple nights and it's all I can do to not go sleep out there. Is there something wrong with us???

The first mod on a 23D

I’m normally a lurker here, but wanted to make a strong recommendation to go back a few pages and review the terrific mods that Ron has documented. High in the list—and perhaps the simplest one—is the addition of a hangar bracket to stow the sink cover when you need to use the sink. Ron even posted a link to the elegant piece of hardware—available in Amazon—that, when installed, looks like the factory did it.

I am not the handyman that many of the posters appear to be—Ron appears to be in a class by himself—but this thread is a wealth of good info.

Official "greetings"

Hi all,
DW and I finally picked up our 2018 23CB Serenity from Colonial on April 25.

They were prepping for 5 deliveries the next day so my orientation was a little rushed but all of my questions/concerns were answered. Service was really hopping!

I really felt better when Chris installed the Equalizer hitch on my GC. Chris is a truly gifted young man with mechanical skills and patience. A rare combo these days. I hope Colonial takes good care of this valuable resource.

The only, what I consider, major defect was the never connected black PVC vent pipe under the bathroom sink. Trying to fit 270 lbs into that void is a challenge to say the least.

For 2018, there is now a factory lift to hold up the upper cabinet door over the sink.

After our overnight on the grounds, we headed home. My mirrors confirmed that there was a trailer behind me but the 23 followed faithfully behind to Long Island.

So, so good to look out my living room window and see her patiently sitting there.

I looked back to find your posts on this, as this is on my short list. The round toilet in my 2014 FC is a joke. I just want to confirm, was it the 320 or 321? I'm getting confused, Dometic has so many, and the 320 seems to be "standard height", instead of "low profile" which we would want since it's on the platform?

Would love it if you can check your records when you have a few moments to confirm. Many thanks!

Thanks a ton. It's weird, dometic doesn't actually have the 321 on their website. Anyway, found one at Dyers online with free shipping, for just $205, AND that includes the sprayer option. Everywhere else was $216 without the sprayer so I went ahead and got that one. Nice to have if needed.

Look forward to this being my first upgrade to my new 23d! Important things first!

Batwing Replacement

Took a look today at the ceiling hole that is there for my Wineguard batwing. Other than being a shabby job of the original hole that was cut (will post a pic later), its clear that I need to increase the diameter, as the new King Jack Omni directional antenna requires 2.25 inches and I have between 1.25 and 1.5 depending on where you measure from....

At some point I know I am going to want the space on the roof where the batwing lays for solar and it will be nice not to have to remember to lower it each time. So going with the mushroom type, unless someone here talks me out of it
Have looked at both Wineguard and King Jack, preference is for the King Jack based on reviews and the signal meter that is part of the internal plate.

As of now, I plan to use a jig saw to increase the size of the hole, but I know from experience that a simple manual tool, takes a bit longer, but limits potential mistakes. Just not sure I can cut a 2.25 inch hole with a mini-hack saw.
Expecting the outside hole on the roof to be the same general issue, but need to order the antenna before I unseal that and take a look. Considered a hole saw, but have only done that using a pilot bit.
Have never filed aluminum, but that could be an option with a tin snip? I also have a dremel and a roto zip, but not sure if there is a bit that will cut without wandering ? Any thoughts and experience would be welcome.
Usually I dive right in, but so darn apprehensive cutting the skin on the roof.

Does the 321 afford more space in the lavatory? One thing I’m not digging in our AS is the tiny bathroom space. Thinking of removing the bathroom door and just using the privacy curtain.

For enlarging holes in critical areas, I use a manually-operated 'nibbling tool' They cut small bits of thin aluminum just using hand pressure, and do not distort the aluminum much at all. It's slow, but fairly precise and can cut neatly up to a line. See:

https://www.amazon.com/Sheet-Metal-N.../dp/B00WFFZ2X8

This is but one example. They make ones that can be chucked into a drill and power operated, but for one hole, it's not worth the added cost..I've had mine darn near forever, and still have need to use it. Nice thing is it is very hard to get it to chop wires...

Another possibility is a set of "aircraft tinsnips" these can cut to the left and right around a circle. I don't like them because they can distort the aluminum next to the hole...

Perfect, ordered. Thanks and just what I wanted - nice, slow and steady.
