Dustin! Welcome to the group... you're gonna love it here. May I suggest that, as time allows, you read through this thread from post number one; unless, of course, you've already done it. Lots of good info there, and with the unbridled ambition and unlimited imagination of many in this bunch of 23D-ers, there's nearly always something being fixed, "modded," or fiddled with.

Ronnie,
Re Robs question re ability to wand clean out the hot water tank; cant quite tell from your pics, but can the new plug/drain be easily removed like a plug, or does the gas line need to be disconnected to get it in?
Dustin, congratulations on your new trailer. Sure you will love it and have plenty of adventures.

Fred,
It can be easily removed. You have to use an open-end wrench vs a socket but it can be removed with out gas line interference.

Downsizing to a 23D (23CB???)
I'm thinking about downsizing from a 30' Airstream to a 23D since my wife travels with me less than 50% of the time. I thought about a 25' but there's little difference in weight. What can you tell me about the pro's and con's of this 23CB trailer. I'd especially like to hear the experiences of others who have downsized. Thanks, Kenny

Dang, Kenny, I don't know where to start. Obviously, you have posted your question to a super-biased group. There are two of us. We came to the 23D from 6-years experience with a 17' Casita. While the Casita was (still is, I think) really nice, and thanks to many, many improvements, one of the best known Casitas in the USA) gobs of fun, it cannot compare to the 23D and how it is absolutely perfect for us two old folks. Great size, excellent layout, and it's gorgeous. The ONLY "con" that comes to my mind is the relatively small size of the gray tank. But we seldom boondock, so the gray tank size is a non-issue.
See, I'm no help at all.
You might want to seek out Forum member "dbdreams" and get his opinion. He lives in the Houston area and has a relatively new 23D. Super-nice person, too.
All the best,
Rob

It takes so little to make some people happy (!)
OK, here's my latest treasure:
A little LED light on the back wall on the vanity. It's gorgeous... nicely made and perfect for the application. Here 'tis: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You'll be wanting to save up your lunch money for one of these (you won't have to miss too many lunches, either!).
Linda loves it... 'nuff said.

23 would be a great “upgrade” for you. We love ours after 3 years of heavy to above average use. Feel free to give me a call if you like and I will be happy to talk with you about it 334-332-0003. And yes that’s my cell number on a public forum. I’m just that kinda guy
Thanks

We didn't downsize from anything. In fact, we upsized from an Interstate. Have had our 23CB since October 2017. Here's my take on it...
First trip was 2.5 weeks. Second trip was 4.5 weeks. Just about to leave for another 2-4 week trip.
- It's me, husband, and 50 lb doggie, plus 3-4 musical instruments
- We keep things simple, and we seem to have plenty of storage space
- The bed is challenging for 2 people. Our solution has been to sleep head to toe, giving each person the illusion of having a lot more space. It's not like having a queen sized bed, but it's working just fine for us.
- The toilet and shower areas are small, but we don't care. It works fine. The plus side is we like the toilet and shower being in one room, as opposed to the layouts where the shower is across the hallway from the toilet and sink. Makes it easier to shower and get dressed without having to close off a bunch of windows.
- The grey tank is small, so that seems to be the limiting factor if you're boon docking or staying someplace without sewer hook up. We become very miserly in those situations...skip showers, eat off paper plates, etc.. It's all fine with us.
- Limited kitchen counter space. Again, challenging, but you just make it work.
- Was worried about the fridge being too small, but it seems to fit a ton of stuff, so no complaints there either.
- Lots of folks complain that their dinettes are uncomfortable, but we're really happy with ours. Maybe those people have a different configuration/situation. But we're both real comfy sitting there eating, working on our computers, hanging out talking, etc..
- Big dog bed and doggie fits perfectly under the dining table.
- 2 small wardrobes so we each have our own wardrobe. I got the bigger of the two because I keep one of my fiddles in there too.
- Hottest we've been in so far has been about mid-80's, and the one a/c easily cools the trailer down
- The open living space/dinette area/lounge is wonderful. When it gets dark at 5pm and is 45 degrees out, we have no problem just hanging out inside all night long. And I'm very claustrophobic, so this is really a fabulous thing for me to not feel "trapped." And sometimes, even when it's not real dark and cold out, we'll just eat and hang out inside anyways because we're just so comfortable in there!
- We tow with an F150 with tow package, and we have plenty of leeway with our weights/loads
- 23' fits in our driveway at our house, which isn't really a driveway, it's just a parking spot.
We bought the 23' with the idea that we could easily trade up after a year or two when we move to a bigger property. However, we love our little trailer so much, that I think it's unlikely we'd go bigger. Only reason we'd consider it is if we lived in it full time, but that's not likely. I feel like we somehow ended up with the absolutely perfect trailer for us.
EDIT: I think the 23CB would be like living large, if there was only 1 person in it!! You'd have so much storage space, lounging space, and you'd have the whole bed to yourself. I can't even imagine needing more space than that!

Hi weird stuff,
I read your post to my beautiful wife. We both laughed and agreed with almost all of the things you wrote about the Airstream 23’.

Weird... I love your comprehensive "review" of the 23D, you expressed beautifully our opinion and experience with the trailer. About the only difference between us is that we don't sleep together in the back bed... nope, it's a bit too snug for our tastes and (now the real reason) I snore .
So, in the evening, I "convert" the front lounge to my bed (well, there went 30-seconds), toss on my trusty Marmot Gore-Tex, down-filled sleeping bag (oops, another 30-seconds), and it's beddie-bye for me. Meanwhile, Linda is all cozy in "The Queen's Chambers" in the back. It's a great arrangement for us.

For the most part, the same here and all for the same reasons .
Only difference is a flat sheet laid on the cushions and an unzipped EMS 3 season down filled bag on top.
And one thing that I really love about the L shaped couch, is the locker type space between the back of the couch and the front wall, where the sheet, pillow and sleeping bag can stow in 9 seconds
I have been considering a med/firm memory foam topper that we could simply stow it on the back bed during the day or while traveling ?

I can’t seem to charge my Airstream 23D batteries. It’s stuck on 13.6. With a regular extension cord I hooked up the 30 amp cord to my regular house outlet. I pushed the Used button setting.
What am I doing wrong?

13.6 Vdc is fully charged for lead acid batteries. That is the highest charge voltage coming out of the factory installed charger.
Sometimes lithium batteries will go closer to or slightly over 14Vdc with a Magnum MSH3012 hybrid inverter/charger like we have in our 23D.

So the 13.6 display means that the batteries are fully charged?

Yes, mine does and I have the stock lead acid batteries when I purchased new. I also have a 110 connected 24/7 and my switch is set to 'in use'. Eventually I'd like to get a 30A installed but the 110 will do for now

My Airstream came with two Interstate batteries, green color. Are these the stock?

Ours were purchased 9/2016 and they were green so I will assume those are the stock ones. Not sure the current model and their colors.

After the first set of batteries, they will last longer. On the dealership lot they slowly discharge or even go flat. A quick boost gets them up and the lites run for the demo, but the damaged battery does not last too long.
Look at the build date on the data plate of the trailer. The initial batteries were installed then, but may have sat on a pallet at the factory for months before.

No, it just means there is 13.6 volts being applied to the battery bank. To know if the batteries are fully charged, you need to disconnect power and let the batteries settle for 15 min to an hour (batteries hold a higher false reading for a period of time after charging). You should also turn off any major 12 volt loads like lighting and fans (loaded banks show a lower reading). The fully charged bank will read 12.7 volts. A 50% charge is 12.2 volts. Search a bit on battery charging, maintenance and use. Some very informative folks have posted their experience here.
Good luck with learning about your coach. Pat
Edit note - a battery disconnect switch that physically removes all loads for storage will save your bank from parasitic discharge and extend their life. Simply removing the battery cable or removing the batteries is an inexpensive alternative.
