According to GMFL's install notes, the front protrudes from the front and inch further, so it used a bit more space. But from all reports I've read, the tradeoff is worth it.

No. Curtain sounds good.

Well, that's "kind of" what we do. When showering, we close the bathroom door, but whenever "sitting," we simply fully open the bathroom door against the bed and unfurl the accordion privacy thingy... We think it's luxurious!
Aesthetics are very important to us (duh... it's an Airstream!), and we're not about to be without the bathroom door which would leave potty and shower on full - and constant - display.

In the eye of the beholder with the lux thought. Perhaps I’m spoiled on the home front because my AS lav reminds me of a Barbie doll house tidy room. We knew this going in and had hoped to acclimate, but hell its claustrophobic. At this stage in my life function trumps aesthetics, so unless I figure out a way to create more space the door is coming off. I wonder if the split fold door is any better.

We've given up no function for aesthetics... we feel that we have both, in spades. Of course, every pig to his own slop, as they say.

No more room in the lavatory, but lots more room for the man parts while sitting.

We removed the bi-fold bath door and put up an extend-a-rod and hung a curtain. It allows more light and air, “hides” the shower and toilet, and doesn’t bruise us as we pass. Anyone want the bi-fold door?

David this was another option I thought of as well! Would you take a picture of your setup with the curtain? What type of rod did you use in this mod? TIA

Anybody put Centramic balancers on? I just ordered a set, $200 but what the hell, can't hurt and they seem to have solid physics to back them up.
So that makes it about a thousand dollar couple of days with the basics covered (PD4655, EasyStart) plus the balancers and new toilet, for the new 23d. Will get new bearing seals and repack those when I install the balancers, and finally get metal valve stems so I can finally install my TPMS. A little further down the road, lift kit, Smart Plug, and a solar addition. Wrenchin' is as much fun as campin'! Am I right?

Looking to replace forward vent with a Maxxair fan
I posted a thread / question in the Electrical forum, but it seems to be stalled. Not sure if any of you folks have replaced a vent with a fan, or know of options.
I tried calling Jackson Center and spoke with a real nice fellow, but he needed to go to other people to get answers and I am not completely certain he understood what I wanted to do.

Peter,
I have been considering centramics, but haven't made the move. Actually with my AS being 10 years old, I have done a full survey and all interior rivets seem to be fine.
When I upgraded to the new 15 in wheel and Michelin tires, I had it done at my tire shop that I have been going to for years and they road force balance all tires. Have never had a problem with vehicle tires being out of balance and so far... it seems these are good. I have considered mounting my go pro camera inside and taking it out on the highway, would be interesting to watch what goes on in there.

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing...using the gopro to do a before and after with the Centramatics to see if there is any difference. Here is a video that is on the Centramatic thread on the forum of a lady who rode in the trailer just to film 'what goes on back there' and I have to say...the creaking and groaning was quite surprising. Our Airstreams tow so quietly and smoothly, we presume that it's like riding in a feather back there..not really!

Sounds (looks) to me like those looking for a good upgrade may want to consider some kind of a ride dampening shock absorber for the axles. I think we just assume that Airstream has provided the best suspension.
Good video to see the fun back there on city streets and kind of reminds me of the 60's riding a school bus to first grade. We always went to the back to get the bounciest ride... But doesnt appear that the speed was enough to check on balancing and what it can do to the inside. Would be interesting to see that, especially if the GoPro was hard mounted a counter or table.
Before and after Centramics could be interesting. I would add that to my list, but could be a few years before we get there.
Reminds me Peter, did you get your wheels high speed balanced?

Cleaned and ready!
My poor 23D has been sitting in her berth way to much this year. Life has a way of getting in the way of travel and adventure. Washed and waxed her today in prep for a month on the road starting Friday.
As they say, the mountains are calling and I must go!
We will be in La Veta part of next week then on to Blue Spruce and Monument Valley before returning in time for a wedding late June.
I know this thread is mostly about mods and such but thought I would drop a note about getting back on the road.
Hope all of you have a great summer and safe travels.
David and Carole

I am sooooooooooo jealous! So, while you are luxuriating up there in Site 97, go over and sweep off Site 96 for us... we'll be there a bit later this summer (Linda's back surgery success assumed). Tell Tom and Sue "hello" for us, and don't miss the Saturday pancake breakfast.

I'm calling nonsense on the "Mostly about mods" business... this is the clubhouse, anything goes, especially talk of actually "going!"
Have a great trip, David, and post some photos of you and Carole... please.

Our first few days in our new 2018 FC 23CB
Since we ordered our 23 CB (aka 23D) last October I have been lurking on this thread reading, learning and planning for our new adventure. Finally, on Saturday, May 12 we rolled out of Colonial in NJ and were on our own (sort of). We still have all of you experienced ‘streamers’ to answer questions before we even thought to ask them. Here are a few observations after our first few days in traveling and at campgrounds on the way home.
We were pleased to find that our unit came with the bifold door on the bathroom. I had decided I could live with the small space, but the flexibility of the bifold is much nicer!
I was disappointed to find that the tongue jack is big and square, precluding turning it 90 degrees to allow my tailgate to open. I guess I will just get used to that.
On our first 3 hour drive to Gifford Pinchot State Park in central PA, the upper hinge on the left galley door gave way and we found the door leaning at an odd angle. A new hinge is on the way from Colonial.
So far, we are pleased that everything is working. Still a lot to learn, but thanks to these forums, the curve is not so steep!
