Love it Ronnie. Sad that we have lost that kind of opportunity to teach now a days. So many crazy stories of what would happen to you now.

Hoonanea, mine was just a 1/8 in dia ding, but a deep one. Was thinking I may just cut off a rivet head and glue it on
I do like that tool though....will have to remember it jic.

Thanks Rob. Great alternative to Amazon also ... I was told that mine had some kind of UHF addition on it, but clearly it wasn't or it wasn't working.

Ok, another truth be known, shortly after I picked up the trailer, I pulled out once forgetting to drop the mast.... thinking the mushroom style would just be one less thing to remember

Oh, I installed this signal strength meter, too: http://www.campingworld.com/winegard...YaAtaHEALw_wcB

Works great. Remember, your old antenna didn't have a chance... all TV transmission now is digital and is UHF. The old antennas were VHF and don't work these days. Anyway, I highly recommend the King.

You are right... happened 20 years ago so I would probably be just about ready to be paroled on child abuse charges for hurting that kids feelings.

Toilet water flush quantity

We're new to Airstream, and just got a new 23D(CB) Flying Cloud. We now have a smaller black tank than we're accustomed to, but still, it seems to fill remarkably quickly. Wondering if flushing uses a lot of water and if there's a way to adjust that.

Hi DavidaPeter — I travel mostly solo in my 23D and usually for 3 day weekends. For that period of time, I’m fine with room to spare in the black tank. I can get by on a 3 day weekend w/o a sewer hookup if I use my outside shower (with full privacy shower curtain) or the campground’s bath house. Most state/county parks in Florida do not have sewer hookups.

If you’re filling the bowl with water after each use that isn’t necessary. But aside from that, I’m not aware of a way to adjust it.

Tom,
Am not familiar with that fixture, but you could call the owner from LED4RV.com and based on my conversations with him (his name escapes me), no doubt he can assist.

Fred, thanks. I got it figured out with a call to the service department and a trip to the parts store.

So, in the evening, I "convert" the front lounge to my bed (well, there went 30-seconds), toss on my trusty Marmot Gore-Tex, down-filled sleeping bag (oops, another 30-seconds), and it's beddie-bye for me. Meanwhile, Linda is all cozy in "The Queen's Chambers" in the back. It's a great arrangement for us.
We did the same thing this weekend, but SHE got the convertible bed and I got the "king's bed" at the other end. Recently we were beach camping with daughter and grandkids--60mph wind gusts started, kids abandoned their tent and SEVEN of us piled into our 2018 23D for the night (4 adults, three small kids). As we used to say in the news biz "...there were no injuries."

Couple of questions after the experiences of sleeping on converted dinettes and divans.

First, when one lowers the dinette table to convert dinette to bed, which cushions are the proper ones to put over the table to make the bed? The other night my wife stuffed two in there, randomly, and if felt (to me) like I was making her sleep atop a cattle guard. I am sure we were doing something wrong.

Do most folks put a mattress pad atop those relatively hard sleeping surfaces? They're odd sizes...be interested to hear what others have done.

Finally, we have used the divan bed several times, pulling out the extension to make it close to a double bed size. I couldn't believe there is no way to lock the pull-out extension in place. I cut two pieces of hardwood 16" long and put that at either end of the pullout and it seems to hold it in place just fine.

Well, I'm not going to be one bit of help on this question. We will never, ever make the 'table area' into a bed. Having modified the table so that it folds for more lounge room during those "non dining" times, and having built a little cabinet to replace that [darned] upholstered bolster means that there will be no bed-making across the front of our 23D. Of course, I saved all the factory stuff, so it's reversible for the next owners if they so choose.

Having said all that boring stuff, I actually did try to arrange the cushions once just to see how it works... I failed... it didn't!

As the front-sleeper, I can attest to the fact that I've never even thought about 'lock' on the pull-out mechanism. Since I use a couple of 1/2" plywood spacers to completely level out the bed platform, I guess they do a great job of 'locking.'

DRB, must have been quite the night in 60mph winds...
4 adults and 4 children.... did any sleep in the overhead cabinets?

I thought we were tight with 2 adults and 2 dogs, but also have some foam pads I can lay out on the floor to squeeze two more in if needed (as almost occurred last fall at PSU football tailgate).

Re foam pads, I bought a 3in foam pad from Costco, that I personally was not impressed by, especially since I cut it to fit before sleeping on it, so I cant return it. Way too soft and very heavy.
While in a Walmart one day I noticed they had a foam pad for a full size bed that was $50 and maybe 1 inch or 1.5 inches. I bought it, brought it home and laid it out before cutting, put the mattress protector on and sheets and it was perfect. Will be buying one for the front also and sew up a cover for it so I can simply lay it on the back bed in the morning. Thinking about it just now, may sew that cover out of bed sheets to really simplify things. Put a mattress protector on and slip it all into a bed sheet cover....?
In the morning, put in on the back corner bed and pull the bed spread over it all. At the end of a trip, take it out of the cover and wash the cover.

We met a couple who had three kids and were purchasing the bunk model CB. When you want to do something, you can do it and smile. Pat

Rich,
There must be a tent in that equation somewhere Or young children with lots of length still to add to their bodies...
I guess that bunk is what makes it work. Dogs... wherever they please?

Two kids are in college, two in grade school. Most of the time we have five that go camping. 3 adult size and two kids size.

When we do have six we sleep as follows:

Me and wife in corner bed
Little boy in bunk (bunk holds 150 pounds)
Oldest daughter on pull out bed (where Rob sleeps)
Middle daughter and little daughter share dining bed (its tight!)
Dogs on floor. Where ever they want.

We are long time tent campers and are used to sleeping in tight spaces. So it is cramped with all of us, but more space than the tent.

My wife doesn’t always come with us, And when she doesn’t and I have 4 kids, the little guy sleeps with me, then each daughter has their own spot.

The older kids are also usually out and about working and doing college stuff, so they are spending less time with all of us.

The wife and I got out a few times with just the little kids. When we have four people it is the perfect size.

Wife gets the corner bed.
I get the dining table bed.
Each little kid gets their own spot (bunk and couch pull out)

It’s a great size rig for our family and we make it work for all combinations.

Our garage remodel is almost done, I will post some pics and look forward to getting the AS here at home with us.

Arcane question: has anyone taken apart the refrigerator cabinet in their 23? I'm wondering how the trim/shelf above the top of the refrigerator and below the microwave is mounted. (And my trailer is in storage.)

I would need to move that up 2-3 inches to fit the refrigerator (a NovaKool RFU8320) that I'm thinking of installing. So, I was wondering if that cross piece was corner screwed in (yay!) or installed with dowels (boo).

Thanks
Tom
