What I didn’t say in my introduction was that I had been diagnosed with ALS the month before I ordered the trailer. This diagnosis made me even more motivated to get the right Airstream and continue traveling with my dog. But I knew there would come a time when I could no longer handle camping alone…my dog not being much help with setting up and tearing down a site.
September 2019 Earl and I headed to North Carolina with stops along the way…we were running ahead of Hurricane Dorian. Unfortunately, I had four falls on this trip due to my progressing muscular atrophy. Two of the falls were serious with one resulting in a concussion and another leaving me briefly unconscious lying at a gas station.
I returned home in denial about my faltering abilities. Two months later, I traded my F-150 for a Honda wheelchair van and today, after numerous falls at home, I spend my days in a power wheelchair.
I have come to grips with my declining abilities and my beloved Serenity is now for sale (in the usual places). I enjoyed the time my dog and I spent in both of our Airstreams and will always carry the great memories with me.

Sorry to hear about you not being able to keep Streaming with Earl. I do wish you all the best.

Thank you for your response! Yes, that is actually what I am doing now. Except, I have not removed the motor from my electric jack (the motor is failing). However, I would like to fully replace the jack with a manual jack.
I have spoken to a few RV supply stores to look at options. I was just wondering if anyone else had done the same. Thank you.

On my 2006 the new 15” spare dropped right in.

With the head off the electric jack, it is possible to put an adapter in your electric drill to go into the top of the screw shaft of the jack and run it up and down. Harbor Freight has a three size adapter (1/4”, 3/8”, and 1/2”) set to be able to drive sockets with the drill. The shafts with a square top can be driven with the proper size socket using the adapter above.

OK, I've swallowed my pride and made a couple of videos. They are awful... I look - and talk - like an old geezer (which I am), but it was fun and maybe some of you may get a kick out of my feeble efforts... well, at least the camera is good, and the videos are short... mercifully short!
Check 'em out here:

Rob,
I really liked the "Old Geezer" part because I am one too :-)
I had an old Class C that had a lounge with a giant table that was always in the way for just two people, I made what we called a "Cocktail" table, much smaller and user friendly just like your presentation.
I absolutely love your invention for a convertible dinette table. I actually have the know how to make the table top and apply the Formica type product, but all the hardware you show would be the hardest part.
Would you please share the links for all the accompanying hardware like the leg, drawer guides and hinges to make it all work?
That would be a fantastic upgrade for us because we agree, 90% of the time just a half table would be perfect!
Thank you, Gary

Hi, Gary, thank you very much for your generous compliments. Yes, the folding table is very useful; a huge improvement in the dining/lounge area.
Sure, I'll be very happy to give you more details, even more detailed photos might be helpful for you.
I don't think I can get to it until Monday, so don't give up on me!

More Lighting in Vanity Area
Just "living" in the 23D, we find that often we leave the upper 'medicine cabinet' door in the raised position... sometimes on purpose, other times we just forget to close it. Either way, it blocks the overhead lights resulting a darker-than-ideal vanity area.
So, with a bit of wire, a 'refrigerator door' switch (from Ace Hardware), a LED light from Amazon, and a couple of hours, we now have light, even if we DO leave the mirrored door 'up.' This is the light I used... very inexpensive, and with two in a package, I've got a spare! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The attached YouTube video shows the new light plus some other stuff.
I love doin' this stuff!

Gary, what do you think about me starting a new thread just about constructing a folding dinette table? Yours is not the first inquiry I've had about this fairly ambitious project, and with a dedicated thread, we may find others that are interested and might even be able to offer constructive tips and t; involved techniques. As I've said before, it really is a project worth doing.
Rob
PS: Have a great two weeks... I'm jealous.

Hi Rob, thanks for the video, nice work. What is the chrome trim you have around the edge of the vanity top? Is that just a pull 'n peel backing to stick it in place?

Hi Rich... It just the aluminum extrusion that was on the original top.
I just removed it from the original top and screwed in to the new one.

As part of the long defects list in our 2015 23D International Serenity, there was no support for the mirror. I guess that is why they left the Airstream name off of the back of the trailer. Like most folks here, we have modified the coach so much that the defects were cured by improvements and not more lowest bidder parts from Aurstream.

Nice idea, that would be very generous on your part to spend all the time to do that, but I am sure would be very much appreciated by everyone.

I'm very happy you documented your upgrades on youtube Rob. You did well. You might be old but I am old and fat. But, I'll cherish my time on this side of the dirt.
Had I seen this sliding table idea, maybe I wouldn't have built, built and built again some way to have seating and dinette in my FB. Oh, I still can't get how amazing your Casita is.

Well I finished (maybe) the magnetic curtain mod. I made a pretty big miscalculation and had them upside down. I wanted the magnets at the very top, with the bottom ones up a little. It works. I have the plated steel washers but they won’t work as well with my miscue. I decided to stick the centers together to hold them back when open and will need to find the spot for the washers for the outer two curtains.
One thing that still needs to happen is to move the hanger thingies close to the edges that closes. The slide thing with the elastic. Pic attached. That will stop the sag where they come together at the top.
Bonus! I finished / adjusted the cabinet door below the main wardrobe that holds my Olympian Wave 3 heater.
