FYI—experts at Bay Area Airstream had the door deadbolt repaired and in good working order less than an hour after I pulled into their service lane! Good people, and they didn’t charge me.

I spoke with Keith. I think he will be able to repair his broken water valve on the road.

Well Bruce,
It could be done from worse places for sure.
Fortunately I’d been there before, so I could help.
Kevin should be able to access the freshwater tank valve from an access plate in the tank cover. Then he will be able to disconnect the white drain valve and place a plug in the flexible hose attached to the tank.
This will at least salvage their trip and he can seek a permanent solution once they have returned home.

Merit Badge
Meriwether (Keith) just informed me after a few hours of gathering supplies and work that he has repaired he’s water tank and is ready to continue their trip.
He has definitely earned a

Replace the rivet and replace the screw with a # 10 3/4 “ and you should be good the go. Next step up would be to add a Rivnut in the wall and 10-32 machine screw.
You may also want to check the med cabinet as those have a tendency to leap from the wall while traveling.

Thanks Ronnie, I checked the medicine cabinet when you checked yours and I also did Rob safety fix at the same time. I’ll recheck the med cabinet screws.
Thanks for your help as always. Scott

Big shout out to Ronnie for his expertise and coaching on this repair.
Thank you Ronnie!
Also shout out to Hill City Lumber and Hardware. They had the tools and fittings to get the job done.
After a couple hours under the trailer we were back on the road and able to dry camp at Belle Fourche campground, which is at the base of Devils Tower.

Cool Inexpensive Handy Hook
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Over the years I have gotten many great ideas and information from this thread. So I wanted to pay it back by sharing a really neat hook idea we found this week.
Here is the link on Amazon:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
These hooks have a nice rubber backing so they do not scratch anything and they fit all our cabinet doors and drawers in the Airstream. They are great for hanging shirts and towels. We even hung some on the lower part of the screen door guard to hang shoes out of the way. We bought one set to try them out and immediately ordered three more sets, very handy.
I was always looking for a place to hang up a shirt so I could button it up before putting it in the closet or a wet jacket to dry out. These hooks fit the bill perfectly.
Cheers!

Just got home from a week at the beach. Airstream performed flawlessly yet again. 15K AC kept the trailer nice and cool cycling on and off throughout the day in 90+ degree heat with inside temp set to 75.
It’s great to have a unit with the bugs worked out.

Upgrading to 15K is something I have considered after reading your post siting back. Can you tell me again what that entails and where you bought the unit?
Thx, Clint

Clint,
I purchased my unit from RV Parts Country. https://www.rvpartscountry.com/Domet...y_p_19022.html
I paid 950.00 for it and sold my 13.5K for $500.00 to a local guy doing a restoration. I see now that they have gone up in price some($1028.00), but I would not hesitate to do it again.
The unit is a direct swap out and the only parts needed is the unit itself and the gasket/drip pan kit.
Here’s my blog post on the swap out.
http://www.airforums.com/forums/blog...all-done-2974/
Hardest part about the whole job was getting the old unit off the roof and the new unit on the roof. If I remember correctly the unit weighs 109lbs. I built scaffolding which made the job much easier.

Ronnie,
Have you been up on the Airstream's roof lately? When I finally got around to washing off the thick layer of pollen before our Galveston/Texas Hill Country trip, I noticed that the the rear of the air conditioner had compressed the doubled-up rear rubber pads, the result being that the A/C is now sitting low in the back. It's as if the two (stacked) rubber spacers are now compressed to the thickness on one. This seems like a totally inadequate design: the rear of the A/C is the heavier end and it has far less square inches of spacers than the front. So, the danged thing sags to the rear.

Just saw this post today. Could the extra 1500 BTU pull that much more extra power? Or is there something else going on for Foiled Again, maybe their breaker is worn out? I know with Easy Start you are ahead of the curve, just wondering if you have thoughts on this post.

My 15K does not draw anymore amps than the 13.5K did. The only difference between the two units is the size of the condenser coil. 13.5k has 2 layers and the 15K has 3 layers. I believe it’s the same compressor just more surface area for heat exchange.
Just posted there

Rob,
When I installed the new AC unit which the 2 gasket system I also installed some of the foam pieces as support for the rear of the Unit. My unit is still sitting flat and level. I installed the “rear support” right on top of the ceiling joist that runs under the rear of the AC.
I just went out and took a couple of photos for you.
See photos below.
