Complete and utter overkill for sure. I will have approx 8 hrs of fabrication time and $126 for the Multlock MP5+ puck lock and $28 for the 3” ID AR500 pipe and $40 for powder coating and who knows how much Argon shield gas and MIG wire. The other steel I had on hand.
I could have bought one for less, but man it was a fun project.

Why buy it if you can spend twice as much time and money and make it yourself?

I just like the screw bolt link better than the hook. Used them on my boats for years with no issues. Something they get stuck in the closed position and you need a wrench to unscrew.
Ive never had one come loose, but I do check them all the time on trips and at stops etc...

Crap work be Airstream.
Ok guys here’s a couple of good one fo you.
Last week on our camping trip I had a small water leak show up in the plumbing. It was leaking at the back side of the city water hookup (where the female pex connector screwed to the pressure regulator). The fitting was loose so I tightened it and the leak stopped.
Me not being content with that I decided to remove the bathroom vanity so I could get a better look and make sure it did not happen again. Here’s a few thing I found.
Airstream had some kinda female to female pex adaptor in-line with the sink water hook up. I’m going to swap out for a crimped pex female connector straight to the pex supply line and do away with Airstreams gizmo. Also noticed Airstream did a not so wonderful job of crimping the male connectors. (If I remember correctly from when I took the factory tour these pex lines were pre made on a work bench so there is no excuse for this because it was not like it was crimped in a tight spot).

More Crap....
I also decided to take a peek under the furnace vent into the gray tank and this is what I found.

Repair
This is what I did to fix it. The 2” hole in the plywood was already ready cut I just had to cut out the vinyl flooring to open up the hole and allow heated air to enter more freely.

Ronnie, any advice on how to take the vanity out. That is just unreal to me, and now I won’t be able to sleep when we go out in the mountains where it drops below freezing. Which by the way in Colorado is most of the time!

Rich,
Call me it’s easy to access. You don’t have to take the vanity out. Just pull the bottom toe kick.

Now we are talking, put a trailer on one those to slow the crooks down from stealing your diamond encrusted hitch lock.
Do you think a 23ft would be sufficient?
Thanks,
Matti

If I had such a lock, I wouldn’t feel safe at anything less than 34 ft.

This is interesting! I am going to check all my duct connections. When the furnace has been running, I’ve felt the airflow in the bathroom and bedroom and they are pretty weak. Makes me think every one of the pass throughs might be blocked. We haven’t been camped in a hard freeze yet, but some good frosts.
Thanks for sharing this. Hopefully folks from outside the 23CB community see it. (I check here almost daily to see great tips like this.) even though I’m a FBer instead of a CBer.

I could have done some nice file work around the edges, but I was not sure how well it would show up under the powder coat.

What found is there is about 12' of duct hose stuffed in where you need about 8'. I took off the panels pulled out as much ducting as I could, then cut off the excess. After doing that the air flow was better from the furnace.
Thanks
Matti

I did the same Matti and agree.
Ronnie, I was thinking about that hole in the floor. Could it be that they did not want all the air going down there, so they STRATEGICALLY cut a small hole to moderate or reduce the airflow for optimal flow in the belly pan.
Now that it is unrestricted, maybe all of your air is going there and not to other spots.
But, then I remembered, it’s AS, so likely just some dude trying to meet a quota and thought that would do the trick.

Rich,
When I first saw that picture, I wondered the same, thinking perhaps the restricted airflow was intentional.
But Ronnie said: "The 2” hole in the plywood was already ready cut I just had to cut out the vinyl flooring to open up the hole and allow heated air to enter more freely."
Then, I thought: If they intended to restrict the airflow by cutting the vinyl accordingly, then why bother to cut a full 2" hole in the plywood?
I soon came to the conclusion it was not intended, but rather a production mistake.
Cheers,
Bryan
