No, because all I have done is transitioned the airspace around the tops and sides of the fridge from outside airspace to inside air space. This new seal prevents the walls a and fridge from being bathed in hot air.... or the 3/4” walls from being exposed to cold air in the winter make the trailer easier to heat

Rob,
I used the nice stuff Home Depot sells for 3/4” pipe. It tucks in nicely.
I started at the bottom and wrapped it over the top and cut at opposite corner. Then did the same on the other side. So the top has two layers side by side.

By doing this you also reduce the cubic feet of air space the fans are trying to exchange which should make them more effective.
Also I think about the fact that Airstream uses the wiper seal with traps that hot air in and does not allow the fans to circulate that air.

Inside the refrigerator my theory is that by promoting a more uniform temperature inside refrigerator results in fewer cycles. Also it helps with areas that freeze.

Ronnie,

for those corner gaps you said to caulk, I wonder if using that foam spray would be better? Yes it would stick, but I think that would be fine. From your pics, the fridge would still be easily removed as the foam pipe insulation and backer rod you used would not be sticking to the fridge.

Foam would work. I used silicone cause I can control it better, but the foam would be fine just gotta be carful not to make a big ol mess.

Ronnie, may have missed it, but did you tape or secure the foam in place, or just compression fit?

Any chance that is going to move around and possibly come loose?

Thinking some double sided 3M tape ?

Compression should hold it in place it fit very tight. And is wrapped over the top.

I take it that this is what the thermostat/thermostor looks like:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RQNWP2K..._t2_B07117FBMH

I think I will do the pipe insulation method around the perimeter of the fridge and then try to move the thermostat so that the fan kicks in more frequently (both GMFL's suggestions) and see if that is sufficient.

Do you have any idea what the stock one cycles on and off at? It seems like it must be at higher temperatures.

Thought I’d share my answer to the fridge compartment heat issue. I used some leftover DEI floor and tunnel heat shielding that I had from a hot rod build. I only stuck it to the trailer wall sides allowing the fridge to be removed without having to peel anything off. I also curved the top area to promote airflow out the top vent.

Niiiiice. Can that stuff be purchased at auto zone type stores. I’m thinking about the exposed wall segments in the fridge compartment.
I was looking at Refectic brand stuff but it’s not fire resistant. This stuff is fire resistant.

I usually buy it on Amazon. It’s called DEI Floor and Tunnel Shield II, part 050503. I believe it’s good for temps up to 1400F.

Just curious, what is the benefit to the fridge operation?

The 23D thread

Mikentosh, that looks sweet. Perfect for this total overkill thread!

How did you secure it in place?
