Looking good. An interesting design with the folding leg.

Actually, the leg does not fold. It is, however, removable by loosening one 1/4"-20 screw. The back of the table base - the stationary part - will be affixed to the aluminum wall beneath the windows. That will keep the stationary table secure. The sliding mechanism can be brought forward to support the foldable table top simply by grasping the leg (or nearby) and giving it a tug. Then the foldable top will come over and onto the now-extended base. Does any of this make sense?

Thank you, Ronnie, for your kind compliments. I do enjoy fiddling with stuff like this, and I'm so very fortunate that my sweetie-pie wife (of 57 years) really encourages me to own good tools.

I think the most fun of this kind of project is the "engineering" part... you know, just figuring out how to do it and in what order to do the g'zillion steps. Linda is frequently amazed that there are no drawings, or sketches, for my little projects.

And as for welding you would be amazed at what a grinder can hide. Sometimes it looks like a Drunk Dirt Dobber did it!

I have been there but it was over fifty years ago. I remember it as a really nice place with nearly no other visitors. I'll bet it's a lot more "populated" these days. Don't forget, it gets really hot there.

Palo Duro is a great place, been there tree times in the last two years. If you can hit it during the week or at least not near a holiday it helps, can get very crowded. Some good trails and fantastic sunsets. I am likely to be there again early October. And there is a good RV museum in Amarillo at Jack Sisemor (?) RV ~ and it is free!
Side note, just spent 5 weeks in my 23D, loved every minute! I still feel for one or two people she is near perfect, a little closer with a few of the mods posted here, thanks all!!

Well, OTRA, here's a little 'progress report' ... I find that when things get this far along in a project, the 'details' seem to take forever.

Just the same, the sliding table support assembly is essentially complete. Just some minor sanding and applying the final finish. With four drawer slides, with each pair clocked 90-degrees to the other pair, the thing slides beautifully - smooth as silk - and with virtually zero 'wiggling.'

What you can see of the leg in the attached photos shows the final finish: Solar-Lux black dye, overcoated with Bartely's 'Jet Mahogany' gel stain. The whole thing will be top coated with satin lacquer.

So far, this project is going well, I'm encouraged that I may actually achieve a success on this silly idea (!)

All the best to all, have a perfect week!

Rob

Nope, 'KV' slides (Knape & Vogt)... excellent quality, I've used zillions of them with zero issues (well, maybe zillions is a bit of a reach). They are ball-bearing 'full extension' slides like Accuride and several other brands. I'm sure the various manufacturers seek to make them exactly interchangeable.

They are rated at 100-pounds max, but, of course, the only ones doing ANY potential load bearing are the outermost ones (the pair mounted perpendicular to the table top surface). And, even at that, they will be called on to do essentially NO load bearing, that duty being ably done by the back wall fastening and the leg up front. The innermost pair are there simply to address side-to-side wiggles... which they do VERY well. Does all that make sense?

Today I ordered my street side and rear awning package from ZipDee. Estimated ship date is June 13. I will post details on my installation once it arrives. Cost was $1200.00 plus freight.

Awning Rail

Ok any of you guys have the Full awning package on your 23D. If so post a few pics of the street side and rear awning for me. Also need the measurement from the top of the window frame to the top of the awning rail. This measurement should be 4 3/4" but just want to make sure. I am very handy and have the tools and time to install the two awnings myself, so......... that's the plan. Just want some more info other than the Zip Dee installation instruction before I go drilling holes in my airstream
