Texas - Registration and Weight.

I just picked up a 2000 Airstream Safari23 SE. I bought it in Missouri. I have the title and need to get it registered and weighted. I don't have a clue where to start this in Texas. Anyone????

I am going on memory, but I believe you have to have proof of inspection, proof of insurance. weight and of course the old title. I think there are one or two forms that you can download and complete ahead of time. A call to the County tax collector's office should provide all the details. Don't forget money for the use and other taxes/fees. I think the use tax is 3% of the purchase price.

I have never been asked for a weight certification. The Clerk will ask the weight...give the weight on your documentation. Have an insurance form from your tow vehicle and a checkbook. If you need a weight for your office in Dallas go to a Co Op in the area and get weighed on their scales.

I had to get mine inspected and they wanted a weight. I would take it by a Cat scale and then to any RV dealer for a "green sheet" (I think). It is a transfer of title form. Any RV dealer with a service bay will have them. Take that and scale reading to the dmv and transfer your title. The weighing and inspection should not be more that $20-30 total. Title $ depends on value they assign to the trailer.

I have been thru this 3 times. Not a big deal. Any inspection station can do the inspection. It is called a Green slip (now white) that they will give you with the inspection. Go to any certified scales and get it weighed and get a slip. Take both to the DMV along with proof of liability and title and Texas sales forms and you're home free. Of course you'll have to shell out some registration bucks!
