Another note to those of you excitedly following this thread with us...

We contacted Dale Pee Wee Schwamborn yesterday to ask if he knew anything of the trailer. He said he didn't remember the trailer per se, and doesn't have a wealth of knowledge of the trailers of that era. He DID, however, know the Leuenbergers and said they were friends of his mom's (Helen Byam Schwamborn). An interesting observation we made is that Helen's #2 trailer in one of the pictures we found from the late '50s had the same white top as this 8435 trailer did in the 1960 rally pictures. Makes us wonder if the Leuenbergers called in a favor to their friends, Byams/Schwamborns, for a trailer similar to Wally's and Helen's. Interesting thought...

We have plenty more digging to do to find out more about this gem. What a fun quest!!

cool about the connections ... lots of those area trailers had white roofs ... (Plus mine ...)

Helen Schwamborn's two Airstream trailers over the years had unique floor plans, both front kitchens, I think, so this trailer is not a clone of either of her trailers. Sorry.

As for the white top, I believe that it was a factory option in the late 50's/early 60's. Someone has a build sheet for their trailer from that era that listsed "Egyptian White Roof" (or similar) on the order.

Sorry, wasn't very clear in my last post. I meant that if Leuenbergers were friends to Helen, then also potentially to Wally, and may have requested a World Traveler floor plan similar to his and those being made at that time in the OH plant. Someone was right when they said this is very similar to the golden trailer (though this has the bath across the back like the other WTs). I knew this was nothing like the "office" trailers that were set up for Helen, but had the combo of the WT interior and the white roof of Helen's.

I knew the white roof was an option, but didn't realize how common it was until I started looking at old rally pics. Just lots of thoughts swirling around in our minds as we wait...

Add me to the list of people waiting anxiously for the news. Did the current owner give you a price, and then you made a counter-offer? OR, did you make an offer to entice the owner to sell? Just curious......thanks....

Jay talked to the guy (went up to the door and asked if he wanted to sell the "old camper" out back). He said he had someone offer him money to scrap it (AAAHHHHH!!!!), but the guy never came back. He told us what he had in it; basically what he paid for it 10 years ago. They discussed some of the deterioration of the trailer since then and Jay added that the floor, plumbing, and electrical will all need to be replaced. He said if he sells it, he wanted to see it go to someone who would restore it. I think he was excited that we're in the middle of restoring another one.

So Jay threw a price out there and the guy said he'd talk to his son, who also might be interested in the trailer. The guy doesn't know how serious his son was about wanting it or restoring it (doesn't know if he has the will to do it). We're trying to play it cool, but it's so hard waiting! We definitely have wiggle room to go up with our offer, so now we wait.... <biting nails>

Now the million dollar question, Before Aircooled spills the beans <if he chooses>...What would this Airstream go for, with all the knowledge we know about her?

Any guesses?

LOL... Thanks! We love the Google Earth comments from you and Mistral Blue... Funny thing is, when an acquaintance had told us the general location of this AS off the road, we actually WERE frantically panning Google Earth to try and find it. Jay just happened to actually find it driving around last weekend. I'm so glad he has a good sense of direction!!!

We'll stay hush-hush until we see some of the guesses come in...
