Refurbishing and needs help

Hi everyone, was wondering if anyone could riddle me this. I have purchased (and working on) my first airstream it's a 81 excella II. When I bought it, this thing ( images attached ) was just sitting in the middle of the room. I was wondering what heck it is, and where it originally went?

I think that Airstream called it a writing table. They were mounted on the wall to the left of the door. The second picture shows the back of the table. The first picture shows the front that would be lifted up from the vertical to the horizontal and used as a desk by a person seated on the sofa.

That table is mounted on the wall between the sofa and the door. In addition to a being a table, in the down position it also serves as the storage place for two folding chairs, with access through the door that is on one end. ZipDee folding chairs fit perfectly in there.

This is a weblink to a 1982 owner manual. It is very similar to your 1981.

Thumbs up Refurbishing

I have a 1995 30 Classic and that is where this item is located, end of sofa next to door.
