Pump won't prime!

Hey All I have a 1979 ambassador 28 ft. I'm redoing the leaks... And now my pump won 't prime ... It runs and I hear water gurgling but not much comes out... Any advice?

If there's water making it to the pump, and nothing coming out, bets are that the pump is, well, dead.

Which Pump?

Is it the original PAR or an after-market replacement? If this question makes no sense, kindly take a picture.

This can also be a symptom of a bad check valve (or no check valve!) at the city water inlet. That's a pretty good description of what my pump was doing the first time I used it... turns out that when the PO replumbed he didn't include a check valve at the city inlet, so I just cap that when using the pump. Check to see if it spat any water out the city water inlet while the pump was running before you start with the pump.

Also make sure there's no place for it to suck air between the fresh tank and the pump inlet.

I've had various camper pumps do that over the years, and this sounds sort of remedial, but open only one faucet, and put your mouth under it and suck with the pump running.

If there are no leaks, you will draw water up into the pump to prime it.

Once I couldn't get my pump to prime. Took it apart, messed with it, and still couldn't get it to work. For some reason I decided to open a drain valve on the outlet side of the pump (like you would do to drain fresh water tank) and it primed right up.
