ok history buffs, what is this??

hey gang,

saw this cute little trailer that had been converted i assume to haul a motorcycle.

the back of the trailer was modified to have a fold down door/ramp.

all vintage including the DeSoto pulling it.

it was spotted at the fall amca meet in davenport iowa this weekend.

any ideas as to what it is?

john

Could be an old Silverstreak.

It's a 13 segment Airstream fer shure. Looks like a Bubble -- 55Bubble

They blew off thousands of dollars of extra value for such an in-demand Airstream.

My first thoughts, but the nameplate appears to be a (very faded) airstream badge - and it's got the door-within-a-door.

It almost appears to have been spliced from two trailers - the rear oxidation/coloring appears to be different than the rest of the trailer.

yes the first number is eight.

it was gutted on the inside.

so eight might be '48?

Cruisette? This sure looks right - 1951Crusiette2

And John, note photo 5 -- the VIN starts with 8 too. The 51/52 Cruisette opening page VIN example is as simple as they come -- "8000 to~8075."

Cruisette or not -- John, would you say the transported bike is more valuable than the Airstream?

No correlation to years hidden in the serial numbers then. Cruisette was only made in '51 and '52. If I've read the serial right, that makes it an early '51

bob,

not sure, did not meet the owner or see a bike near it.

however, there are plenty examples there that you could trade for a top of the line airstream or a airplane!

some of the pre war (the first one) have been in the six figures for years now.

I like the desoto. That's got beautiful lines!

Someone with skillz could still save that little stream, whatever it is. Looks like it's sitting really low on those axles, and that's a nasty looking ding on the back corner. Of course, the desoto looks a little rough too, so the guy might just be into rat rods.

I wonder if the crease on the rear corner isn't a result of over loading the frame or just a result of improper craftsmanship on the conversion.

BTW, I vote Cruisette.

yeah,

every year at davenport the stuff people drag out into the open just amazes me. both the desoto and the trailer had vintage plates on them from michigan.
