Newbie question..

Hi all..

I'm Rick and I'm new to Airstreams but have seen them since I was a kid when we used to camp in my parents 68 Nomad trailer (21').. Anyway, I've currently got a 2001 Nash 5er that is suffering various QC issues due to poor factory selection of caulking and whatnot (roof leaks, etc). I've got to find a new home for that thing after I seal & clean it up.. What I'd love to find is a new-to-me Airstream that I can sit in our driveway (sideways if needed) since we're not allowed to park any RV/Trailer on the street anymore w/o a permit from the city. That would allow me to keep it nearby to keep an eye on it and upgrade/fix it as needed -- the Nash trailer is currently sitting in storage and getting slightly abused by naughty kids in the evenings -- for $320/quarter (I'm in the greater LA area).

So.. Enough history.. What I'd really love to know is if there is a database of the various models of Airstream/Argosy/?? trailers showing floor plans, lengths, typical sleeping quantities (e.g. sleeps 4) and whatnot. I've read that some have baths in the rear and others don't,etc. We've got a family of 5 (kids are 12/8/4) and the kids kinda like to tent so I'm hoping we can get away with something in the 22' range give or take which will also fit the driveway.. Also, if there are things I should steer clear of, that would be great! I see lots of these being sold in local Craigslist editions in varying states of repair for $4-6k for the most part, some higher. Someone even had one that had some fire damage so he gutted it and is selling the shell for $1200.. Not sure I'm up for that kind of rebuilding.. Anyway, any hints or suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! Lotsa good info on that site! I'm thinking that about a 25' model might be about right from either AS or Argosy..

For vintage (+25 year old) units - you will find lots of good info at the Photo Archives

Good luck with your search!

One more question if I could.. I don't see any rhyme or reason for which models have the upper windows on the curvature of the roofline.. I saw I think a 76 Caravanner in the photo archives and it looks like it lets in a nice amount of light but I didn't see it on many trailers..

They are called "Vista View" windows. They were an option - I think part of the International package of the 60's & 70's. I'm not sure about the later years...I know some newer trailers have similar windows.

Do you know if they were in any of the Argosy trailers? I haven't seen any but...
