Identify this airstream

Hi all!

New to the forum and could use some help identifying this airstream. Iíve been reading a lot and looking through all the content in trying to figure out what exactly my mother in law is giving us.

According to the plaque by the door. Itís a safari land yacht with the vin/serial of 222d670.

I canít seem to find any place where that number identifies it as anything. The title just has 1957 airstream but no model listed. Just the vin.

I tried looking at that site that has them all listed, but all of models arenít the exact one. Iím currently asssuming its the 22ft custom, but who knows?

In this forum or in google in the search box type in "deciphering a Airstream VIN number" and several threads will pop up that will help you. Or somebody here will decipher it in a few minutes. I can't remember how to do it by heart but like a VIN number each space identies something and it changed a little bit over the years. Looks like it's 22 foot, double bed, 57 the last number might be blank intentionally and the first number might be the sequence or number of how many builds that year.

Thanks, i have been doing that on google and here for god knows how many hours. It seems that, for whatever reason, this vin doesn't match any of the format breakdowns that i have been able to find. Just missing a bunch of digits everywhere. I am going to keep digging and hope to find something on my own, just wanted to try and see if someone here could be like. "Oh yea, those dreaded 57's, they used that format for one year on half of the fleet. it means this..."

Yup! That is the closest one yet! Title says 1957 though...willing to bet the title is wrong. No wonder this has been a wild goose chase!

One minor detail to point out -- you have a cap "D" in the VIN but your original post had a lower case "d" -- may not be important but given that some folks are looking at photos on a phone . . .

Good luck researching this,

Peter
