Unhappy Dead in Baker

This 1971 (I think) 29' Ambassador in Baker, CA is behind the Royal Hawaiian motel. I've been watching it for about 6 years, and this year it's really gone down hill. Many more windows are now broken. Skin is in good shape except for the dent in the rear top, and maybe the small depression near the air conditioner. Too bad about the rest of it. "Mom" demands that the kids hang on to it. If you stop by, talk to Renee' at motel counter.

Interior!?

WOW!

So SORRY to see that AS sitting there going to sh*t.... Yikes.

This actually reminds me of a RV wrecking yard where I saw a '00 sitting. It had been rolled but still had so much usefull stuff. Got a complete FF for $90 out of it. if anyone needs parts off a '00, let me know as he said it would only be around a 'few more weeks' - then????

Also still looking for a square 3x5 BAL rear stabilizer jack foot with the rolled up edges - Anyone??? Please...!!!!!!

Also need original plastic blind hangers with the hinge front.... does anyone know what I am talking about?!? All the 'blind' places looked at me like I had 3 eyes!

Peace

Axel

that's just wrong!
Someone has to have an family intervention to save the child!
I hate to see anything go down hill needlessly.

here's the inside. not as good as the outside, IMHO. I do like the gas lamp, however. Have only seen one other example, in a 60's Globetrotter.

Hi Zeppelinium--Have the same gas lamp in my 1973 27' Overlander. Not only does it give off light, but on chilly damp evenings it gives off enough heat to make it comfortable.--Frank S

parting out

Yippee! (???) I own it.

I stripped out the lights and the propane lantern, as well as the 4 remaining good windows. I also removed the door and door frame that provides access to the Univolt.

I'll barter the side window(s) for a good rear window.

I'm planning on taking the shell to Mojave in late January. I'd like to host a cannibalization party, unless someone wants the shell intact. Unless I get other inputs, I'm going to gut the inside, saving only the foam and bathroom fixtures, leaving all the guts behind. Maybe I'll retain the sink, too. Except for the dent in the top just aft of the A/C, the shell is in good shape. If keeping the front or rear section intact is of interest, that's also an option. There is no title or VIN plate--they are being put to good use elsewhere. If someone has a use where covering over many of the windows and having an empty shell is appropriate, I can provide an alternate VIN plate. Let's see if the frame is in one piece when I go back in January.

The only part of this AS I want is a couple sheets of the interior skin. I'm removing a lot of the windows in my Overlander and Sovereign (those leaky Vista Views and incomprehensible knee-high windows, not to mention the side lites up front) and want to use the coated skin inside.

I don't know what shape the frame is in, but that would also be available.

Items that would be available:

2 side windows
Window frames
Skins, inside and out
Stringers
Latches and other inside odds and ends
Underbody frame
Trim
Bath fixtures
Main door (rear stringer is broken, no lockset)--who was it at Creede who had the deformed door from an "inflight" opening? The front stringer from this door would fix that problem.

OK, we need and International Airstream Police System that can go around and rescue poorly treated Airstreams. Sort of like a Dog Warden. Then we could set up adoption centers in all the regions so fellow AS owners could come and adopt the trailers and save them for a slow angonizing death.

Dead in Baker

Amen to that Rick! There should be prosecution for someone doing that to an Airstream.

The sad thing about this paticular AS is that 5 or 6 years ago, when I first started bugging the owner, it was in pretty good shape. Inside was a mess, but it had all it's windows and was up on 4 tires. Vandals have really savaged it over time.

No surprise in Baker, Ca.

Baker, Ca. is absolutely the worst place to stop for vehicle repairs or even gas. They have a long history of cheating travelers. It has been stated, if your car breaks down in Baker, Ca. you would be better off haveing it towed to Las Vegas or Barstow. This trailer's owner could have been convinced that they would be better off leaving it for some fictitious reason. This is one city that I recommend not stopping at while in California.
