Port or Starboard

In the ref. below, "Port Side, Streetside" "Starboard Curbside" the number of letters determining left and right does not hold true to the theory as explained earlier!
Are you saying AMERICA IS WRONG, and we should drive on the left?

Things are slow today!!!!!!!!!!
Dave

"Now that we know the names of the 'sides' - in the USA or any country where we drive on the RH side of the roadway - the STARBOARD side is commonly known as the CURBSIDE...The PORT side is then by defalt, the STREETSIDE (or ROADSIDE) of the vehicle..."

The PORT/STARBOARD designations are good visual references, as the 'name' of those 'sides' of the vehicle (vessel) never change, no matter what angle they are viewed from - you can call out PORT or STARBOARD and everyone knows what you mean, instead of, for example, "Go to the LH side." - LH side from what? Facing front, or facing back...Well you get the ideal...

Keep in mine that when you travel to the British Isles, and many of their old territories, where they wanted to be different, and drive on the LH side of the roadway - the CURBSIDE/STREETSIDE designations are reversed...But, the PORT and STARBOARD still remain the same...

As another aside, our land based, roadway vehicles have AMBER lights in the front, and RED lights in the back - helping to determine if someone is coming AT you - or going AWAY from you...good info to have at times if it's dark!

Likewise, vessels afloat utilize the RED and GREEN side lights to determine the status of other vessels nearby - crossing, overtaking, etc...

Hope this doesn't confuse all those 'non-salts' out there...

Only for short periods of time when cornering at high speed.

no i wont..I'm aggravated as hell....calm..calm....calm..calm

In England..the roads are so narrow i'm parked on Streetside and Kerbside
at the same time..I find it easier driving and parking 48ft in 2 parts..
i.e. a 24ft.Lorry Pulling a 24 ft trailer..
it's easier and more fun tackling mini roundabouts
chainsaw..cut the lot in 2..more privacy..more rivets..separate lavatory..powder room and doggy parlour
no end of benefits..got more reading to do..cheerios

I worked on cars for 32 years and never referred to curb side or street side it is right or left. If you are in a car, truck, motorhome or trailer for that matter looking forward right is the curb side and left is the street side, so why not just use right and left as long as you don't get your right hand mixed up with the left you will be ok.

curbside and streetside

When I am driving with a particular friend of mine I don't know which is the driver side and which is the passenger side!!!! But I've only been driving 50 years.

Curb or Street

I agree with the simplification to use left or right.
Wherever my wife sits is the DRIVERS SIDE!

I agree with Massey Ferguson. The instructions for the turn signals don't say "streetside blinker", they say "left blinker".

Pitching in ..That's what we say.. but I'll bet you that's an expression from the USA..but..I don't know what is from where anymore..Vinnie he speaky Engrish..and use Engrish words..and I wonder ..did he get that from yours truly or vice versa..thats Latin by the way.. i'm googling pitching in..ah..thought so..baseball and all that..
My lead is short and tight..I don't stray far..i've restricted myself..there's enough stuff and nonsense on my thread without spreading it with a trowell..I live near Trowell by the way..A village down the road with a 30mph restriction..In some villages we have 40 mph dropping to 35 then to 30..which is annoying..I got nicked doing 36 in a 30 when I thought it was 35..
I'm floating along in my Airstream..not really..i'm working and listening to LatinyAustrianyVioliny
which is making me imagine i'm in a far better place If I close my eyes I'm there..arm dangling..air rushing through my twiddly fingers..green fields..oh well.. back to reality..Toodiloos xx
