Travelinchika, wife and I are below average in the mechanical/handyman/do it yourself category, but was able to install my rack without much trouble. A little scary drilling the first hole into the rear panel, but fine after that. Rack has been great. We live in the Birmingham area if you want to take a look at ours, PM me if interested.

The local dealer here in Alberta Canada wanted about $2000 (Canadian dollars) to Supply and install. They said the rack itself was $1200 and would take six weeks to order in. I managed to find another Western Canadian dealer that had one in stock and paid $1000 including tax and shipping to my home.

I recommend you shop around… Check Amazon and multiple dealers, have it shipped to your house and install it yourself.

Good luck!
Same story with our install; bought the Fiamma rack from the Airstream store for 600 and change, with shipping, and installed in under two hours on our 2014 23D. An hour of that was rechecking everything before drilling the holes. Will reinstall on our new GB in the spring. Omnial, I see we're neighbors with the same AS. Might see you in our travels...

Bike rack

We had the Fiamma rack installed on our 23FB at the airstream plant while we were having other work performed. It is had to determine the exact cost due to the other work but it would seem the total for rack and labor was closer to the $800 figure. We purchased our unit from Dixie RV in Florida and before we went to the AS plant we asked them about the rack and they did not know what I was talking about. I had to show them on the web site that it was the AS approved rack. Needless to say I did not get a price from them since I did not have confidence they could perform the work.

I passed on that style of bike rack because it can’t go with your vehicle to remote areas once your unhooked. Installling a 2” receiver creates the best of both worlds. Once I unhitch, I can comfortably take the bikes anywhere.

Too much

I had my fiama bike installed at the Jackson Center for 1 hour and half labor cost. That included putting the rack together which has a lot of parts. The dealer fee is way out of line.

Your installation probably exceeds Airstream’s design parameters for the total amount of weight [incl. receiver etc.], and its distance behind the rear axle of your trailer. Many other threads and posts review this. Will post links later.

Good luck,

Peter

Go to a good welding shop and get a receiver hitch installed and buy a bike rack that won't damage the integrity of your trailer.

Fiamma bike rack

Just purchased a Fiamma bike rack from Colonial Airstream, around $600. The told me they have several in stock. Plan to assemble and install myself; will bolt it to the rear bumper, and am researching rivets vs screws for upper brackets next to rear lights.

Mine just arrived yesterday, plan to install this weekend. What did you use to fasten upper brackets to the airstream body?

Here is a very good video on installing the bike rack. I used it on mine a couple of years ago.

I installed my rack a few years ago. I followed the instructions noted in the Airstream install video (see previous post) and have had no issues at all.

Be sure not to overload the rack, however.

I installed the FIAMMA rack on our 22FB sport.
i had the bumper installed a year ago. The 3" lift kit was installed 2 years ago.

As the sport is 9" narrower, i had to cut some tubes to make it fit

it works very well

I have had mine on for 3 years and traveled thousands of miles with no issues with the stock brackets. Alaska, Newfoundland, Blue Ridge Parkway and the Florida Keys...

X2.

Mine had been overloaded by my PO but I didn't notice any problem. But when I took the rig to the factory to have some other stuff done, the tech noticed something was bent and fixed it under warranty. Way after I would have expected any warranty work done.

Love those guys. And the Fiamma.

Do you know what part(s) was(were) bent? Overloaded by carrying bikes that exceeded the 77 pound limit? Thanks!

I'm not sure. He was carrying e-bikes, I think.
