Tear drop light aluminum casting curved
That's it. Before AS switched to the new black gasket under the running lights, an owner with the filiform "light base" problem could get AS to donate the Classic ring bases along with the labor and fix the problem via. using the rings to cover the corroded area. In 2013 or 2014 they came out with the new improved gasket that was to avoid the problem of the base laying in direct contact with the skin clear coat.

Why don't you see if AS will do the same for you. If they provide the bases, You do the work, you would be done with the problem for good. You also caulk the bases with Acryl R, Par Bond, etc. when you are done and that insures the lights reman water resistant.

Here is your present gasket.

Corrosion problems with new Airstreams

I bought a 2004 Safari with very bad filiform. In some spots it was over the rivets almost 1/4". My solution was to sand and cover. I ended up using hammertone spray paint. The edges were slightly ragged, so black pinstripe solved that and really cleaned it up. I'm very happy with the new look😀 Now I have to attack the bits around the cutouts, but it's so much better to not notice it on the belt line. Click image for larger version

Howard, Hiho, GettinAway,
I am wondering if those cast aluminum ring bases should go on dome marker lights as well. Do they work up there with the curve?

Curious, we're you having an issue under some, most or all and did they foot the bill?

I think Mine was one of the first ones with the new gaskets But I had read about the problems here on the forum and the trailer was new and I didn't want to take any

I asked but they would not do it for free. We agreed on a discount.

They look good too
