Changing out Bathroom Door Handle in CCD

In my Bambi CCD with rear bath, I have been wanting to change out my bathroom door handle since I bought the trailer. It currently has a lever type handle on both sides of the door that is conveniently at waist level and loves to grab open belt loops or the bottom of my shirt when I'm using that area of the trailer. It sounds silly, but it has happened to both my wife and I every time we have camped.

Last night, I tried to change out the handle for a round knob. However, the thickness of the door was too little for the knob, leaving about 1/4" of gap when fully tightened.

Ideally, I'd rather do away with a handle completely because it really is in the way on both sides of the door as you try and squeeze past. I recall reading that someone had a suggestion of how to accomplish this, but a search revealed nothing. Any ideas?

If I do choose to simply replace the door handle with a knob, does anyone know of supplier that is compatible?

Door Handle

You MIGHT be able to reverse the handle 180 degrees so that it points in the opposite direction.

Also you might be able to use two non-turning door handles - the type that go on undrilled doors like closets. You might have to bend a piece of stainless steel around the door, to cover the hole and mount the blanks on.

I've had it happen to me a few times, but I've gotten in the habit of hanging my robe or a towel over the handle... works great for that. I didn't think about it, but maybe that alone has stopped the problem.

I replaced the entire system. On the inside of the door, I installed a drawer pull with a ring that folds flat when not in use. Thr right size fender washer and proper length screw allowed me to mount it using the original hole in the door. On the outside, I mounted a knob to the original trim ring. When the outside knob is installed, it hides the screw and washer that holds the inside pull. The door is kept closed with a magnetic cabinet catch mounted at the top of the door.
Have had it that way for over three years and it continues to work great.

Bathroom handle

The handle that is standard now can be purchased thru Perlane Sales, Inc. Phone is 330-928-4866
The part number you are looking for is MR-04-106-24You'll have to do a little cutting and a little reinforcement to the hollow core door, but the results are worth the effort...no more ripped pockets and snagged shirts. Cost was $70.00 plus freight.
