Can You Identify This Model?
I am trying to identify the year and model of a triple axle Airstream trailer/camper. It's approximately 35' long and has the number 4040 on the front above the Airstream name. Is that enough information to identify what this is?
This Airstream was purchased by my neighbor about five years ago. He never used it and it has sat untouched in his yard all this time. Unfortunately he died a year ago. I am interested in buying it from his estate if I can learn enough about it to make a reasonable decision. It needs a lot of work.
Thanks
Larry

Welcome. Photos and serial numbers would help. The 4040 is probably a former owners WBCCI membership number.

Hey Larry. Welcome to the forums. That's not enough info. Those red numbers are member numbers for the WBCCI (a club for Airstreamers), not manufacturing info. A triple axle is normally a 34 foot trailer and were made for many years, but went out of production a few years ago. Can you post a picture or two?

Sounds like a 34' Excella Classic. They were made in the 80s and 90s, exact years I am not sure. As far as I know longest regular production model, not counting a few 35' 5th wheels.

Here's my 93 Excella Classic. Looks similar except: belt decal is different, living room windows are different, my refrigerator is roadside not curbside, my hot water heater is also roadside, furnace is in a different location.

Yours looks an awful lot like Luma's rig. Look thru these forums under Excella and see if anything matches: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f142/

We had a 34 foot Excella 3 axle (93 or 94) and the construction materials were terrible and it stunk like formaldhyde or adheasive so bad we sold it. Our clothes smelled like the Airstream when we would bring them into the house after a trip. Might have been just ours but it was horrible.

It's an Excella. I didn't realize that the name on the propane tank box was the model name of the trailer.

Best way to further identify is by checking the serial number if you have access to the trailer.

The plate with the VIN # is probably under the left hand stone guard. Or, does the neighbor have a registration slip or title? The VIN will tell the year, model, and where it was made. Either way, post the VIN and someone will decipher it for you and tell you exactly what this coach is.

It is a 34' trailer.
The 4040 is a previous owner's Wally Byam Caravan Club International ID numbers.
Please buy it and enjoy it.

It has the same decal around the trailer as my '86 Sovereign 25'.

Do I have to remove the stone guard to find the VIN number?
