Airstream frame

Did Airstream produce a trailer with a main aluminum box frame in 1991 or for that matter ever use an aluminum frame under the floor? Does anyone know who the manufacture is of the current steel TT frame used by Airstream?

Airstream frame

Greetings Bud!

I can't say that I have ever heard of Airstream using an aluminum frame under the trailer, but they did put an aluminum composite floor in some Argosy coaches during the 1970s. It has been confirmed by many owners that their '77-'79 Minuet 6.0 Metres have these composite floors as well as several of the 6.7 and at least one 7.3 Metre Minuet as well. One Argosy 20 has also been reported to have this aluminum composite flooring as well.

Hi Kevin,

Interesting, I didn't know that Airstream did that (composite floor). Do you know what the floor compostion crossection is? I quess that Airstream had to reduce cost during the late seventies and the floor got the axe.

I don't have one, and really know nothing about them, but reading the posts on the subject of the aluminum composite floors suggests 1) that it was something of an experiment limited to a very small number of units and 2) not a total success. There seems to have been a fair amount of "give" in the material.
