Uwe told me yesterday that he was working on getting the front sofabed completed, dry cleaning the curtains, and getting all the window operators set. I am NOT looking forward to the long drive in a single day out there, but looking forward to downing a few brewskies with the Uwe while learning the systems.

Steve
I'm going to check on the repairs at Bob Jones RV here. They did a lot of work on the Tradewind. No Airstream dealers here in Houston if you can believe it.

Well it's about that time. Tomorrow after work, we are leaving on the trip to go get our 63 Overlander. We are meeting Uwe in Deming, NM for the exchange, and plan to overnight in Las Cruces Friday night. The following are the pics of a nearly completed trailer other than the front sofa (upholstery not ready till tomorrow). The biggest issue we have right now is taking our stuff with us. We will need linens, pillows, clothing, food, dishes, pots and pans, and essentially everything you need for an almost 3 day camping trip, but won't have the trailer to store it in until Friday. Because of this, we are packing in plastic totes. When we get to our hotel tomorrow night, we will have to bring them all into the room...what a PITA. Oh well, it matters not since we are so close to our goal.....Airstream perfection.

Yeah Jim! Make it happen! I'm thinking Ink's Lake SP or Canyon of the Eagles? Somewhere half way between San Antonio and Ft Hood. I'm sure your cruised will be done.

Have a fun trip Steve. You, Amy and Collin have to be very excited.

Congratulations Steve and Amy and Collin on the completion of your "new" Overlander. We'll be anxious to finally get to see the finished product and to know you'll be camping in style once again. Fun times ahead!

Galveston State Park

Steve- Here's info from the website:

20 RV and Trailer campsites
There is water and 50 amp and 30 amp service. These sites are close together and has communal facilities. The pavilion provides shared picnic tables and shared ground fire rings. The restrooms are approximately 150 yards away and the shower facilities are on the beach side of park.
$20 per night

didn't check on availability. The other RV locations I've seen in Galveston are like parking lots with big SOBs wall to wall. Like the idea of Inks Lake or one of those spots and seeing some of our compadres for a mini rally. Maybe we do Galveston later in Sept. less people and heat.

Steve & Lance - I'm doing all I can & progress does seem to be being made!! Haven't been able to say that in AGES. Inks Lake sounds like a perfect spot. I think they even have some shady spots!! I sure want to join in on the fun.

Take care Steve & Amy. Be safe.

Got out of work early, and we are finishing all of our parking. It would seem odd to stop in Ft. Stockton tonight as we could get much further. Guess we will see how we are feeling after dinner time.

Super psyched!

Steve

Early to bed & early to rise . . . trumps staying out on the road late.

Hope you already have a room booked as most rooms are taken by oilfield personnel. I usually stay in Van Horn at the Holiday Inn. Only about an hours more drive.

We are stopped for the night in Van Horn, TX. We decided to go past Ft. Stockton since it was early. The hotel is FAR from nice, but for a single night it will do. I have not heard from Uwe since I left the house. He was still awaiting the upholstery to be finished before assembling the bed and heading out. I hope everything went well.

I think the Burrows family are beginning a trip that will be remembered and talked about with fond memories, both within the family and around camp fires with friends for many years to come.
